Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt feels it would be a bad idea to replace Virat Kohli as India's Test captain with Rohit Sharma as then it would become very clear that both players are not getting along on or off the field.Reports of an alleged rift between Kohli and Rohit had been doing the rounds ever since the latter replaced the former as the T20I skipper last month.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) then decided to sack Kohli as the ODI skipper and hand over the job to Rohit, which added further fuel to the already-raging fire. But Kohli put all rumours to rest this week when he claiming that there is no rift between him and the senior Mumbai cricketer.

But there are still rumours going around that Rohit might just take over the captaincy of the Indian Test team as well if Kohli flops or doesn't perform up to expectations in the upcoming series in South Africa.

Butt however, is not in favour of Kohli being sacked from the Test captaincy as well.

"I don't think it should happen; it won't be of any benefit. But, I can't say whether it will happen or not. If it happens, it will be clear that there is tension between them and that they are not getting along very well."There can't be any other reason to snatch the captaincy away from a captain who has won the most number of matches abroad among all other Indian skippers," Butt said in his YouTube channel.Kohli is India's most successful Test captain with 39 wins and 16 losses from 66 matches. This includes 15 away Test victories and series wins in West Indies, Australia (twice) and Sri Lanka, while they also lead 2-1 in the postponed series in England this year.

Looking at Kohli's outstanding record as Test captain, Butt said India should not drop him from the job even if they don't conquer South Africa as it would be harmful for cricket.
