Most Vedic illustrations may appear superficial to the modern scholars but the significance of the knowledge cannot be ignored by the critics who term the stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata as epics. Veda mentions in detail about the incarnation of great kings, the Mahabharata, gods and devils. It speaks about parallel universes and other planetary realms. It explains how the universal time is different from the time measured by humans on earth. It talks about energy which created the whole universe and also about the destruction of the universe when everything will again merge with the same energy. These books talks of mantras, ceremonies, rituals and philosophies of Hinduism like how soul undergoes the process of life and death? How to attain salvation and know the ultimate truth? What is death? The invaders from outside India wrote multiple theories about Vedic tradition and origin of Vedic knowledge. They said that Vedas was worse than savage (as written by historian Max Muller). Before the outside invasion, the society was governed by Vedic principles but invading leaders wanted the people to follow their tradition and contribute to their profits. The region was highly productive and simple. It was easy to manipulate the society as per their wishes to gain more profits. The people coming from outside India were attracted towards the wealth, plainness and comfortable infrastructure. They were least interested in knowing what the culture pre-existed. All the initial knowledge about Vedas in English, are written by people who were from outside or unaware of real knowledge. They intentionally devised ways to make Sanskrit appear primitive in comparison to their systems. Western historians provide multiple biased guesses but do not guarantee the precise date about the origin of Vedic knowledge. Hindu word itself was first used by Greeks for people living beyond the Indus River. The Puranas were written by anonymous writers. There are many books known as Smriti. There are over eighteen Maha (Main) and Upa (Sub –category) Puranas having over 400,000 verses. Upanishads are like branches of the four Veda. All together make 1180 books which were initially vocally taught by the teachers to the young scholars and then written as books. Such knowledge has been lost due to lack of preservation. Many such books explain how Vedic knowledge can be applied in everyday life. The Rig Veda is one of the oldest of containing over one thousand hymns covering 10,600 stanzas. These are divided into 8 chapters which were written by saints - Atri, Vashistha, Kanwa, Jamadagni, Vishwamitra, Gotama and Bharadwaja. Sama Veda is a collection of saman or melodies which are musical notes related to rig Veda. Yajur Veda was used during religious ceremonies and the yagya or sacrificial ceremonies performed by saints. The Athar veda contains spells and charms, and it provides a clearer picture of the society.
