If you have to think of a document other than the Bible that people can easily cite without thinking about it, that document would be a declaration of independence. Comparison with the Bible is appropriate. It is not that the Declaration of Independence is religiously sacred. But it has a place of reverence in the hearts of the American people and in the history of the founding of this great nation.
Although not the first words of the Declaration of Independence, these shocking words have the power to prophesy so that anyone who hears them is immediately impressed by the beauty, the poetry and the deep truths which are so beautiful in this historical document. Was expressed from
We acknowledge the truth of the fact that all human beings are created equal, that they have been granted certain inalienable rights by their Creator, and that they seek life, liberty, and happiness.
This statement of the famous proclamation beautifully illustrates some of the basic principles that show why this document has such a profound effect on the American mind and heart. The statement that the truths contained in this document were in fact true is a profound statement in its place. The Declaration of Independence states that what is being proclaimed in these pages are ideologies, possibilities, even political ideologies. These are truths that value them as statements of value that are often read in a religious context. Truths are eternal values and values that do not change with circumstances, through anyone or whatever is governing the earth or the will of the legislators. These truths are above these worldly ideas and live in this field of eternity.
"Self-evident" is a powerful phrase and reflects the founder's belief in what was called natural law. Natural law is a system of belief that there are laws that are part of the natural state of our existence and cannot be snatched away. These laws are our rights as a creation of Allah Almighty, and any system of government should recognize these laws because they are above the government. This is the basic belief of the American system that all people are entitled to these rights, and they cannot be taken away.
The mention of a Creator in the Declaration of Independence is important because there are people who maintain that the separation of church and state tells us that government is a secular institution. Clearly, the founders did not lay the foundation of our country on this basis. They saw the legacy that is in our rights and freedoms as Americans to be part of our heritage from God and thus, to be above the government and the government should step back and be left alone as well as beautiful. The Declaration of Independence is truly a wonderful document, especially when you consider the "initial" state of the nation when it was written by Thomas Jefferson and signed on July 2, 1776, to become the backbone of our American system of government. It became a frequently cited and cited document, even becoming part of President Lincoln's famous inaugural address when he spoke with such conviction;
Four points and seven years ago, our forefathers gave birth to a new nation on this continent, conceived in freedom, and dedicated to the idea that all human beings are equal.
Because these words are so deeply rooted in our American heritage, American history, and American spirit, they are often an important part of any study of history in the schools of this country. That is why school children in every state are very familiar with these words.
But it would be good for all of us to take some time out once a year and get a copy of our Declaration of Independence and read it neither as a private moment nor with our family. What a wonderful way to screw people over. Then, when you see the fireworks celebrating the birth of the country and its independence, the words will remind you in your heart that it is our Creator who has given us our freedom and liberty and No one has the right to take it away.
