According to Mark Zuckerberg, the new VR headset from Meta will appear in October.
The new virtual reality headset will be unveiled by Meta, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, in October, which is usually the month the company organizes its Connect VR conference.
The Facebook founder claimed in a podcast appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience that the next Meta VR headset will have new capabilities that will give consumers a sense of "social presence."
More advanced eye- and facial-tracking features will be included in the next VR headset, according to Zuckerberg. He explained that because of these qualities, people's virtual avatars in virtual reality will be able to grin and grimace as well.
When alluding to digital avatars that can be more visually appealing and interactive, Zuckerberg stated that there is more nonverbal connection between individuals in person than verbal communication.
"You don't really feel like you're there with the individual when you're on a video call. According to him, the key benefit of virtual reality is that it effectively persuades your brain that you are physically present there.
Since changing its name from Facebook to Meta, the company has repositioned itself as a "metaverse" corporation rather than a social network company, selling its approach as one of creating a universe of various virtual worlds for all users. The idea and the purpose behind the message pivot may raise questions in the minds of some, but the business has moved forward and has made an attempt to better integrate the various experiences it is creating. For instance, a social platform for VR headsets called Horizon Worlds is only available in a few nations. However, promises that the following VR headset will be able to capture facial expressions will be put to the test because of complaints about its shoddy graphics.
Although Zuckerberg did not mention the headset's name, it is likely that the thing he spoke about was Project Cambria, the future headset from Meta. Its flagship Quest 2 VR headset, which costs $399 or $499 depending on the model, will be substantially less expensive than that VR headgear, which will cost at least $800. The price of that item was recently increased by the firm, who blamed it on rising production and delivery costs.
As it promotes the idea of the metaverse as the next evolution in how humans interact with computers, Meta has been significantly investing in VR and its brother technology augmented reality. However, it may take years for the corporation to recover from the significant financial losses incurred as a result of its investments in the metaverse, which are managed by Meta's Reality Labs business unit.
For instance, in 2021, the Reality Labs division of Meta reported a net loss of $10.19 billion on a revenue of $2.27 billion.
In addition, Zuckerberg compared Instagram's user interface to that of rival Twitter, which is engaged in legal conflict with Tesla CEO Elon Musk over his attempt to withdraw from the deal to purchase the social media business.
According to Zuckerberg, "you get all these people who are really funny and are saying really smart things, but a lot of them are quite cutting." It's challenging for me to spend a lot of time on Twitter without becoming really irritated.
This week, a former Twitter security chief filed whistleblower allegations alleging that the firm misled shareholders, users, and board members about its security procedures.
