When The World Ends
Introduction
The world is ending. I know, because it has ended many times before and will continue to do so in the future. But this time around, it feels different: we have no plan for when the world ends and no one is coming to our rescue.
No one is coming to our rescue.
You're on your own.
There's no one coming to rescue you. No one is going to save the world from destruction, or even just a few people in it. It's up to each of us as individuals, and we have no idea how this will all play out—we can only hope that our best efforts will be enough for now, but if they aren't...well...that's why we need to figure everything out ourselves!
We can't rely on anyone else, because we don't know what they'll do. We don't know if they're going to help us or hurt us, or if they even care about anything at all—and if you think about it, that's kind of scary!
Over half of us don't believe in climate change.
Climate change is real. It's happening now, and it's already affecting people's lives.
Climate change will affect everyone on Earth, not just people in other countries. If you don't believe in climate change then you're wrong!
Climate change is real, and it's happening now.
The Earth's climate is changing. This is due to human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas), which release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
You're a bit confused as to why the riot occurred, but you know that it's going to be expensive to rebuild. You walk into your house and find that someone has broken in while you were gone Climate change is real, and it's happening now.
The Earth's climate is changing. The reasons for this are still being debated by scientists, but the fact that it is happening cannot be denied. Human activity has contributed to this change in many ways, including deforestation and pollution.
We have no plan for when the world ends.
The world is ending, and you have no plan for it. You know this because of the following:
- Your friend just called and said that there's a mysterious illness spreading through your community. No one knows what it is or how to treat it, but they're trying their best to help those affected by it.
- A riot broke out in town last night and destroyed several buildings including the local library where you used to work as a librarian before moving away with your family back in time.
World.
- World
- End
- Climate change is real. So is climate denial. So are we in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and you don't believe it? We're all going to die, but what will happen when that happens? There's no plan for how we're supposed to survive when there are no more resources left on earth and everyone has died off except for your family members who were lucky enough not to be affected by any of this nonsense (and even then they probably won't remember what happened).
Imagine if your family members were all killed by zombies. You would be sad, but you could go on with your life after taking the necessary steps to ensure that the undead don't get into your house again. The same cannot be said for climate change because it's not something that can be solved by killing everyone who supports it.
Conclusion
We’re all going to die. It’s a fact, and we have to accept it. But what if there was a way to avoid death by doing something you love? This is the core message of The World Ends in 2022, a new novel by Kim Stanley Robinson that follows the survivors of an apocalyptic event as they try desperately to keep the world alive after it ends in less than twenty years from now.
