When couples read Pink Kits, they often ask, “Why should we prepare for birth? We made our birth plan and chose our caregiver. ” The important thing is that women drive a car, not just take a car ride, which does not mean you are a passenger. What we are trying to get people to understand is that developing maternal skills is as important as learning to drive a car. These couples include home birth attendants and private midwives as well as continuous hospital planning staff and midwives from the care team or medical doctor or obstetrician. The Common Knowledge Trust (CKT) has found that similes can help answer this question. Travel First, we tell them that work is like taking an unknown trip by car. Even if you have taken this road before, each trip is different and unknown. It can be very difficult and demanding. It may be longer. You may get tired. Someone or a few people may accompany you. Throughout the trip, some may try to help and protect you and ensure that you arrive safely. Some experts may recommend that you skip a trip. Circumstances may require that you do so. Some experts will encourage you to take this trip as it may be the highlight of your life. Then we ask, what is the difference between that situation and work? After many responses, we tell them that the real difference is that you have learned to drive a car. If you had to travel that way and did not know how to drive, would you agree to spend eight to 12 weeks in advance? Where is the birth specialist in this simulation? Some encourage you to take a trip and others may think it is too dangerous, or you may think you do not need to do it, instead fly. A birth specialist is usually a low-tech or high-tech technician. Next, the couple discuss their relationship with the professional caregiver. Their midwives encouraged them to choose a birth plan. They decide where they will be born, and doctors often tell them what they need. We therefore introduce metaphors into some common work relationships. We all keep quiet when we go to the dentist, yet most of us take care of our teeth every day. If we took this birth method, we were preparing in advance, but in front of the experts we would be doing nothing. Incorrect. Giving birth is like learning to sing, dance, paint, throw pots or play a musical instrument. We probably need a qualified teacher. However we have to do the work to learn, and show the teacher our progress. If we take this approach at birth, obstetricians can be our instrumental instructors, but even midwives often take on that role. The Pink Kit is a driving lesson, so this analogy still does not give us a clear understanding that some of the same work relationships are similar to work and care. As the class applies to all metaphors, couples begin to understand: only a woman will give birth. A father, partner, friend or relative is there to help him with the journey, which will take place in close proximity to any professional care they receive. Kit From the Pink Kit Information made in the U.S. In the late 1970's and 1980's, thousands of couples worked on the project and worked in the hospital. After making some advance arrangements, the couple work together on a regular basis; they use positions that keep a woman open. There are a lot of ‘excellent positions’ that have been theory and have not worked for women, because they did not know enough about the structure of their bones or how muscles react in positions. They perform hip lifts and sit-bone extensions and perform sacral movements to keep their sacrum moving. This is developed instead of counter pressure on the sacrum which closes the space needed by the baby, although it relieves back pain. Learning to keep the sacrum mobile, provides a room for the baby and the woman to relax regardless of the testing, monitoring or other processes that take place around them. They continue to work through the staff process. Staff and doctors often comment on the "good work" they had. “They weren’t lucky? One woman responded: “I wanted to hold that man's neck and shout, 'You don't know how hard we worked to have a good birth!'” Skills When we asked a couple what their mothers and fathers had taught them about handling work. , many saying: “Nothing,” “Not much,” or “It hurts, you will have to deal with it.” If mothers and fathers are not taught how to manage the work, where do they get information, and how useful is it? Whenever people need to accomplish a new task, it is very important that they learn the right skills and apply them. Because so few people have ever been born, they do not know what skills are appropriate.
