Welcome to our live blog on the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event, where we will bring you the latest updates on the new products that Samsung is expected to unveil. The South Korean giant has already confirmed that this year’s An Unpacked keynote is slated for Wednesday, July 26, at 3:30 pm IST. It will take place as a digital and in-person event in Seoul, South Korea.
Samsung’s TM ROA, the head of mobile communications business, has described the upcoming event as one where the company will “pull back the curtain on our latest devices and experiences — inspired by you, created for you.”
Besides this, Samsung has already confirmed that it will showcase its new flagship foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5, which are rumored to come with several improvements over their predecessors, such as larger cover displays, slimmer profiles, and better cameras.
Samsung could also launch the Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic, which will feature larger screens and slimmer bezels. And let’s not forget the Galaxy Tab S9 series, which could include a Tab S9, S9 Plus, and S9 Ultra, with upgraded displays and processors.

A foldable device like the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is undoubtedly far more versatile than a candy bar-shaped smartphone. From the ability to transform into a tablet to one that looks just like a regular smartphone when folded, foldable are an excellent choice of device for all sorts of users, including professionals, gamers, and even tech enthusiasts, who want nothing but the best.
Having used the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 as my daily driver for over four months, I gained valuable insights into the advantages and limitations of a foldable smartphone. With the next Galaxy Unpacked launch event just around the corner, here are the five changes that I look forward to on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.
A wider cover display
Having a full-sized foldable like the Galaxy Z Fold is like owning a device that’s both a smartphone and a tablet. However, the taller but not-so-wider cover display on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 makes it impossible to do any serious work like replying to a mail or a message using just the secondary screen. With the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the company should definitely look at incorporating a slightly wider cover display, similar to the one on the Google Pixel Fold or the Oppo Find N2 to enhance practicality
Durable primary display
Foldable smartphones are more susceptible to damage from everyday pocketable objects like keychains or coins when compared to regular smartphones. While there is definitely a generation-over-generation improvement in the durability of folding screens, it’s still nowhere near as durable as a normal device. I would definitely like to see a more durable primary display on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.
New hinge system
Despite being a pioneer in foldable smartphone technology, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 came with a pretty big gap between the two halves and visible crease on the screen, just like the company’s first foldable smartphone — Galaxy Fold. Given the vulnerability of the display, the company should possibly incorporate a new hinge system, which could help Samsung reduce the gap and the screen crease
Upgraded cameras
The camera performance of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 was above average, it’s just the fact that they are nowhere near as good as the one on the Galaxy S22/S23 Ultra, which offers a more versatile camera unit. For a phone that’s most likely to be priced around Rs 1,50,000, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 should come with a flagship-grade camera experience, and anything less than that will be unacceptable.
Fast charging, bigger battery
Unlike Chinese OEMs, Samsung is infamous for fast charging, where top-of-the-line smartphones support up to 45W fast charging. Last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 with its 4,500 mAh battery was capable of fast charging at up to 25W, and it would easily take over an hour to fully charge the battery. For the upcoming model, the company should definitely consider offering a 5,000 mAh battery with at least 45W fast charging, similar to the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
