Release of PlayStation VR2 in Early 2023
I suppose we can wait a little while more as we have already waited six years for the latest VR set.
The PlayStation VR2 will debut in early 2023, PlayStation said on Instagram last night. There has been a six-year hiatus since the 2016 debut of the original PS VR. The VR2 will only function with PlayStation 5 consoles and uses a single USB cord, unlike the previous VR set, which was only compatible with PS4 and PS5 consoles and required an adapter.
We first got a look at the virtual reality set in February after the VR2 was revealed in January. Users were given their first glimpse at a headset that resembles the earlier model but also has some new features, such as a lens adjustment dial and redesigned vent design, which should enhance airflow and keep the headset cool. Additionally, the headset is thinner than the prior design.

In July, we also got a peek at the VR2 user interface. In this version, a see-through function was made available via the headset's cameras. The VR2 may also be programmed to create a "customized play area," in which case it will scan your room and draw play area boundaries to prevent you from tripping over your couch (via a notification). The update also mentioned a broadcast capability so you may record yourself while playing games for the streamers out there.
The VR2 boasts OLED panels, a 2000 x 2040 resolution per eye, and options for 90/120Hz refresh rates in an effort to make you "forget you are wearing a headset or controller," as VP Nishimo said.
PlayStation's website lists twenty PS VR2 titles that are currently in development. These titles include No Man's Sky, Resident Evil Village, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapter 2, and the PS VR2 exclusive Horizon Call of the Mountain. The VR2's price has not yet been announced.

Seeing Through
The See-Through View is one of the most cutting-edge features coming to the Sony PlayStation VR2. Users will be able to see their surroundings when using the headset, as the business noted in its blog post. Users who want to check their surroundings without removing their headset may find this function useful. It results from the Sony PS VR2's integrated front cameras. The See-Through View can be turned on or off by users by pressing the function button on the headset.
Broadcast mode for PlayStation VR
The PS VR2 controllers and built-in cameras also allow players to customize their gaming environment. The PS VR2 Sense controllers let players increase and set the play area while the cameras scan the space to activate this capability. Users will receive a warning if they cross the play area's boundaries while engaging in a game once it is set up.
Cinematic and VR modes
The VR Mode and the Cinematic Mode are additional features that Sony has made public. Players can enjoy VR game material in VR Mode in a 360-degree virtual environment. Content will be shown in a 4000 × 2040 HDR video format with a 90Hz/120Hz frame rate (2000 x 2040 for each eye). Players can view the PS5 system, user interface, and all non-VR games and media content on a simulated movie screen while in Cinematic Mode. The content displayed in cinematic mode will have a 1920 x 1080 HDR resolution and both 24 and 60 frames per second (Hz) frame rates.
