Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan barely has any records to break anymore, now that it has settled into its position as the biggest Hindi movie of all time in India, the second-biggest worldwide, and the fifth-biggest in the history of Indian cinema as a whole. On its 28th day of release, a Wednesday, Jawan registered its lowest single-day collection yet, adding Rs 2 crore to its total, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
Jawan has collected Rs 615 crore nett in India so far, and today, it’ll pass the Rs 1100 crore gross mark at the global box office. The film opened with Rs 75 crore on September 7, a record for Hindi movies, but peaked on its first Sunday, when it made Rs 80 crore. In the subsequent days, Jawan broke the records for the fastest Hindi film to pass the Rs 100 crore, Rs 200 crore, Rs 300 crore, Rs 400 crore, and Rs 500 crore marks, before becoming the first Bollywood movie to make more than Rs 600 crore in India.
On day 28 of release, the film’s primary Hindi version registered a nationwide occupancy of 12%, and even though it wasn’t quite impacted by this week’s Fukrey 3 and The Vaccine War, it will eventually run out of steam in the next week or so. Globally, the film’s gross total stands at Rs 1099.7 crore, ahead of Shah Rukh’s Pathaan but behind KGF: Chapter 2, RRR, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and Dangal.
With both KGF 2 and RRR having made more than Rs 1200 crore globally, it seems unlikely that Jawan will be able to hit this milestone by the end of its run, considering that it’s still trailing by around Rs 100 crore. Baahubali 2’s Rs 1700 lifetime collection and Dangal’s Rs 2400 crore lifetime collection is completely out of reach. Combined Jawan and Pathaan have contributed over Rs 2100 crore to the global box office this year, making Shah Rukh the only Bollywood star to deliver two Rs 1000 crore-plus grossers in one year, and helping Bollywood stage a comeback after two disappointing years.
Jawan, the highest grossing Hindi film in India, remains steady. As per a report by Sacnilk.com, the film, which was released on September 7, added roughly ₹2 crore nett to its domestic box office collection on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the film had earned ₹2.05 crore nett in all languages in India. The film, which features Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi, has so far minted ₹615.72 crore nett in India in four weeks.
Jawan's week 1 collection was ₹389.88 crore, of which the Hindi version made ₹347.98 crore and Tamil and Telugu versions earned ₹23.86 crore and ₹18.04 crore, respectively. Jawan's week 2 collection was ₹136.1 crore nett in India in all languages. In week 3, the action film collected ₹55.92 crore nett in India in total.
Co-written and directed by Atlee, Jawan is produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma under Red Chillies Entertainment. The film, which was released on September 7, stars Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role as father and son, who team up to fight corruption.
