"Don't give up so much!"
That's Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Maser. After winning the final of the Leagues Cup, Messi will be in a bit of a mood, putting his thoughts about the matters inside the field aside for a while - no, the Argentine star is very persnickety. Messi celebrated his first title in the United States with his Inter Miami teammates, but the next game was on his mind.
Jorge Mas said, "Lionel Messi is already thinking about the semi-finals of the US Open Cup on Wednesday. He does not give so much!"
The word performance does not exist in the dictionary of the 36-year-old Messi's career. The co-owner of Miami wants to understand how professional Messi is, even at this age! Thinking about the club's next match in celebration of winning another tournament. Interestingly, Messi also has a chance to win the US Open Cup but for Miami. Before that, let us introduce the US Open Cup.
The US Open Cup is the oldest of all soccer tournaments in the United States. The tournament first started in the 1913–14 season. About 100 clubs participate in this tournament out of the number of clubs sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation. Orlando City are the reigning champions.
Inter Miami will face Cincinnati FC in the semi-finals of this US Open Cup on Wednesday. The match will be held at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati. If Miami wins, Messi will see another final. Real Salt Lake will face Houston Dynamo in the other semi-final match on the same day. Messi's Miami will face the winner of the Houston-Salt Lake match for the title if they reach the finals. However, after winning the Leagues Cup, this US Open Cup semi-final was not supposed to be Messi's next match. In between, there was a match which was postponed. According to the previous schedule, Messi was supposed to make his Major League Soccer (MLS) debut after the League Cup final. The Inter Miami-Charlotte FC match tomorrow in MLS was as per the previous schedule. But Charlotte FC is stuck after being confirmed to face Inter Miami in the quarter-finals. Then the semi-final, final and third place matches.
That is, whichever team reaches the semifinals from the Miami-Charlotte match will have to play the final or the third place match. And these two matches were scheduled on August 19. Therefore, the MLS authorities have postponed the Charlotte-Miami match as per the previous schedule. So, after winning the Leagues Cup, Messi's next match is the semi-finals of the US Open Cup.
So the question may arise, when is Messi's MLS debut? On July 21, he was anointed for Miami, but still could not step into the top league of the United States. This wait for the supporters will end on August 27. Inter Miami will face New York Red Bulls in the MLS that day (Sunday) after the US Open Cup semi-final. If he doesn't get injured or if everything goes well, the Argentine star is supposed to make his MLS debut in this match. Miami is at the bottom of the 15-team Eastern Conference points table in MLS.
