When Gawk In Horror At The World's Worst Home Floorplan

The house in question, located in CA, is listed on Redfin, though it’s not currently on the market — it last sold in May 2021 for $780,000.

From the outside, it doesn’t look like anything special, but it also doesn’t look like anything particularly terrible:

But if you take a look at the floor plan, the first question you’ll ask yourself is: did someone design this while drunk? Or did a shoddy AI create this floor plan at random? Or did a child try to describe a house and this is what resulted?

There’s truly no good explanation for all the things wrong with this house, such as: why the garage enters into the house via the master bedroom, why the living room doesn’t connect to any of the adjacent rooms except the kitchen, why you can only get to the bedrooms via the “bonus room” via the laundry room via the kitchen, and why you can only exit three of the four bedrooms by entering another bedroom — except the master bedroom, which you can also exit via the garage.

It’s an absolutely atrocious mess. Let’s take a look inside.

Kind of an unceremonious entrance to the home, but okay:

And, finally, what we can only assume is the reason for the existence of this entire house, and took up so much attention that there was none left for the rest of the house: the outdoor bar and pool… which frankly don’t even look so good themselves.

Why does this house exist? Whose fault is it? Who could bear living here? We’ll never know.

An incredibly cramped dining area and hallway-style kitchen:

One of the bedrooms, also very cramped:

Another extremely small bedroom… with a Nixon Place plaque???

What should be a bedroom but is being used as a home gym, putting the ample windows to waste:

A bathroom whose door almost certainly can’t fully open, as it’s blocked by the sink:

A tweet yesterday from Tara Rose (@RareOats) alerted us to something incredibly important: the world’s absolute worst-laid-out house.

A home, or domicile, is a space used as a permanent or semi-permanent residence for one or many humans. It is a fully or semi sheltered space and can have both interior and exterior aspects to it. Homes provide sheltered spaces, for instance rooms, where domestic activity can be performed such as sleeping, preparing food, eating and hygiene as well as providing spaces for work and leisure such as remote working, studying and playing.

Physical forms of homes can be static such as a house or an apartment, mobile such as a houseboat, trailer or yurt or digital such as virtual space.[1] The aspect of ‘home’ can be considered across scales; from the showcasing the most intimate spaces of the individual dwelling and direct surrounding area to the macro scale of the geographic area such as town, village, city, country or planet.

The concept of ‘home’ has been researched and theorized across disciplines – topics ranging from the idea of home, the interior, the psyche, liminal space, contested space to gender and politics.[2] The home as a concept expands beyond residence as contemporary lifestyles and technological advances redefine the way the global population lives and works.
