The shootings happened Sunday night Juneteenth celebration on 14th and U Street, that police describe as an ‘non permitted event.’ The chaotic scene featured crowds of people and loud music.
Four people, including two adults and a police officer, were shot near the Music Festival in Columbia.
The police officer has been admitted to hospital and is in stable condition.
The music festival was a Juneteenth celebration, which celebrates the liberation of enslaved people in the U.S.
“We certainly want to make sure people are held accountable when they hold non permitted events in our city” says Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Robert His.
People reportedly began running when the firing of a tool investigating the unfolding situation.
It comes as U.S. lawmakers place gun violence firmly on their agenda. Around 12 lawmakers are working together to develop a plan to improve school security and to keep guns away from criminals.
According to police, two adults and a police officer were also shot and taken to hospitals for medical treatment.
"I was sitting next to a cop. Next thing you know, shots rang out," Dyson told Watts. "He did not want to stay down. He proceeded on. He was shot in the leg. And he kept moving. He went to the fire. He did not run away."
Dyson said he was near the 15-year-old who was shot and killed.
The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 4400 block of 3rd Street.
He was screaming out for his mom," Dyson told Watts. "And it's hurtful to hear that man. And no one was able to help him."
All of this that’s it bothers me. And it needs to come to a stop. It really does. I couldn’t even tell you how I feel about certain things – and this right here is too much for me.
Not matter what the color is - your race, what kind of uniform you're wearing. It needs to come to a stop. And if it's going to be innocent kids dying every day because people don't want to do this," he said.
"We were trying to enjoy ourselves. Crowds kept running back and forth. To see this happen – and actually here again, where someone left on a holiday. This is something I will never forget."
D.C. Police Chief Robert His said over 100 officers were at the scene.
His confirmed one officer was shot in the leg and that he is expected to recover.
A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed at the scene. Officials say two other adults were shot. Still under investigation at this time.
Elsewhere in D.C., police say a man was shot just before 3 a.m. Monday morning in the 1900 block of 8th Street in the Northwest and two people were shot in the unit block of New York Avenue around 3:30 a.m.
Young bird called for civilians to be on the lookout for a 5’4 suspect with curly hair and wearing all-black clothing.
Stated that a conversation with the Attorney-General will take place about whether the arranges an event will be held accountable. Repeated that statement when speaking with reporters.
