WhatsApp has introduced many changes and features that focus on privacy over the years. From the ability to disable your readable receipts, or blue markers, and even hide your profile picture from some or all of your contacts. However, one feature of WhatsApp has not changed in a long time, and that is the ‘Online’ indicator that appears under your name / number on other devices every time you open the app and use it.
Now, it seems that WhatsApp is finally working on this, and may introduce a change in the app in the future that allows you to turn off the 'Internet' status indicator completely, allowing you to open the app whenever you want, without letting your friends, your family. Co-workers, or almost anyone, gets it. Having a good history of predicting future features of WhatsApp, it has suggested that the platform works on a feature that will allow WhatsApp users to control who can see their online status. As can be seen in the screenshot shared above, WhatsApp will allow you to choose between two settings for your 'Online' index. You will be able to set it to 'Everyone' which will allow everyone to see you when you are online (unless they are blocked) and there will be a 'Like to Keep Vision' option that will display your 'Online' indicator so that only those who have permission to see your Identity View. Depending on how you set it to ‘Keep Visibility’, your ‘online’ status will also be available to more or less people. For example, if you set your 'Last Visibility' status to 'No one' and 'Online' to 'Last Visibility', no one will be able to see both your 'Last Visibility' and 'Internet' references. The report adds that while the screenshot is being taken on iOS, the feature will eventually reach Android and Desktop users. Note that the feature is being upgraded, so you do not have to specify how long it will take. Implementation will come first for beta users, and stable users should receive an update after any bugs have been removed.
