So let’s not wait and get right into it!

Common Golf Terminologies

Before you begin playing Golf, you need to be aware of the terms that are commonly used so that you won’t be confused once you start playing. The first thing that you need to know about is the “Golf Tee” which is basically the wooden peg you place your ball on at the start of the hole.

The next is the “Golf Tee Box” which is the area in which you first play at the start of the hole. Then there’s the “Fairway” which is the part of the golf course that leads to the green area where the putting takes place. “The Green” means the soft, green ground around the hole, and “the Rough” means the wild area on the sides of the fairway, usually full of trees and long grass.

The “Bunker” is the sand-filled area that usually surrounds the green and the “Hazard” is anything that would stand in your way as you try to get the ball in the hole such as ponds, streams, bunkers, or even trees to make the game more challenging for you.

The Scoring Terms You Need to Know

Since you’re playing Golf, you would obviously have to keep score to know who is winning and who isn’t. That is where the scoring terms come in handy so that you can keep track as you play along.

The first one that you need to know about is the “Ace” which is basically a hole-in-one and is pretty hard to get. Next up, you should be aware of the “Eagle” which is 2 strokes under par, and the “Birdie” which is 1 stroke under par and is also sometimes referred to as a Double Eagle.

A “Par” is the number of strokes it takes to get the golf ball from the tee to the hole. A “Bogey” is 1 stroke above Par, a Double Bogey is 2 strokes above Par and a Triple Bogey is 3 strokes above par. These are all the scoring terms that you should be aware of before you start playing.

General Rules of the Game

The first thing that you need to know about is the 14-Club rule; there is a 14-Club limit per bag when you begin with each game. More than 14 will result in a two-stroke penalty for every hole or disqualification. Secondly, you should also remember to play behind the tee markers as playing in front of them will result in a penalty stroke. Also, remember to play the ball from wherever it lands, you can't move it around.

If the ball goes out of the playing area, this will be referred to as “out of bounds”. Also make sure that you have a clear understanding of the Hazards, if the ball hits the water, you have to play it from there, depending on whether it is a lateral hazard or a water hazard, a drop is given to the player.

If the cart path affects your shot, then you get a free relief even if your ball ends up in the cart path. These are some common rules that you should be aware of while you play the game. So the two main things that you need to know about are the scoring terms and the general rules of the game.

Conclusive Note

Playing Golf is actually a lot more fun than it seems. It requires sheer focus and concentration, the kind that would have you feeling like John Wick when you are playing. You should definitely give Golf a shot, who knows if you might be the next Tiger Woods!
