On March 4, 2023, the 21-game tournament will begin with Gujarat Giants against the Harpreet Knurled Mumbai Indians of India.

Mumbai Indians, the second-most expensive club in the league at INR 912.99 crore, will compete in the WPL in 2023 with the goal of matching the record-breaking heights and glory attained by their male counterparts, who have won a record five IPL championships. The current India captain, AUR, will lead a star-studded MI team that includes players like Nat Sliver Brunt and ISSN Wong from England, Amelia Kerr from New Zealand, Chloe Bryon from South Africa, Hayley Matthews from the West Indies, and Heather Graham from Australia.
AUR, the only player to appear in 150 T20 Internationals, has led India to the knockout stages of the last three T20 World Cups, including the 2020 championship match.
AUR would like to see India close the gap with Australia and England thanks to the tournament.
She had stated, "I think this is a great platform for all Indian players because we have been missing this tournament for a long time," on Wednesday during a virtual media event. The WBBL and a Hundred have undoubtedly been successful for Australia and England, and as a result, they have a wealth of young talent.
"After the WPL, we're also going to have some good talent, and I'm sure we'd love to narrow the gap you're referring to (between the sides of India and Australia). You're going to make a terrific team after the WPL when you see good potential emerging," she added.
As the team's mentor and counselor, former India captain Mithali Raj is a steadfast presence in the Gujarat Giants' camp. She praised the promise that WPL brings and expressed her joy over it.
I'm really pleased that women's cricket has advanced to the point where it is now a viable sport for young girls in India on its own. In two to three years, club cricketers outside of India would also be interested in joining a setup like this, Mithali said.
Alyssa Healy, an aggressive wicket keeper batter from Australia, was purchased by UP Warrior at the auction. She was later named captain, with India's Deepti Sharma, the second-most expensive player in India at INR 2.6 crore, serving as her deputy. The UP Warrior will look to start off strong from their first game with a quality squad.
