Many people hoped that if Democrats gained control of Congress, they would repeal the ban on online gambling, but experts doubt that they would even try, or that if they did, it would be successful.
Once a bill was approved and signed by the president, it was much harder to overturn the law.
Democrats would have to introduce the bill and bring it to a vote, then after the vote passes, it has to go to the president for his signature. The problem is that the current president is the one who signed the law in the first place.
Another problem is that the gambling ban was attached to another bill, that means the whole bill has to be repealed to repeal the bill, but the other part of the bill is to increase port security, so any congressman who recommends overturning this bill will be on record, that he will seek to reverse the increase in port security.
Because of that, an effort to repeal the law could ruin the congressman's chances of ever being re-elected to public office for the rest of his life.
It is more likely that he will have to wait until the end of George Bushes term and then get an amendment to the bill that only repeals part of the anti-gambling law.
So if you are one of the online gambling enthusiasts who were hoping that the ban on online gambling would simply disappear after the election, I'm sorry you were wrong, and you'll have to wait a little longer, but that doesn't mean they have to sit quietly.
The key is to make sure you are heard, write letters to congressmen and attend protest rallies, anything to keep this issue in the forefront of politicians' minds, so they know that just as the Republicans lost the house, so can they.
Republicans used the ban on online gambling to try to gain votes for them in the final weeks before the election, but it backfired and lost them more votes than they brought in.
Let's hope the Democrats learn from the mistakes of the Republicans and understand that banning something never works and that only regulation of the online gambling industry will ensure that gaming is safe and fair and that no minors are allowed to play.
Otherwise, I'm sure the Democrats will also see the wrath of the American voters when it comes time for the next election.
