Release dates, and is it already in development?
The most discussed question of all, and the most simple and important one. When will the PlayStation 6 be released? Well, a Sony executive in an interview has stated, "Indeed, in the past, the cycle for a new platform was 7 to 10 years, but in view of the very rapid development and evolution of technology, it’s really a six to seven year platform cycle.". Judging from this information, we can assume that its release will be around 2026.
Regarding development of the PS6, based off a 2021 job listing in Sony, development of an unnamed new console had started. Could this be it?
Design
Just as every major brands' upcoming devices, people have been widely discussing how the PS6 will look visually. A flash drive-like device? Something that can fly, even? Well, what we do know is that there will be a major size difference from the past consoles we have seen from Sony. Some hints and leaks have nudged us in the back to think that it'll be smaller and compact to fit in our homes.
Specifications (Specs)
The PlayStation 6 will have definitely improved with better tech and better innovations. Specifications that we are sure will be added are:
• A better CPU
• Even more responsive controls: The responsive controls leak might mean that the PS6 will have a way to control games other than a controller. A kinetic system would be likely. Who knows what might be invented in a few years?
Features
The most information we have gotten about the console is about the features that are going to be included with it. Features that we are confident are going to be added are:
• Virtual Reality integration: As the virtual reality age has started, it's no surprise that many companies are joining the trend and getting involved in the trade. A major example of this is Facebook (or Meta as they changed their name) which bought Oculus, the most popular VR headset company out there. Right now, we buy devices separately to experience virtual reality. But it's very likely that Sony will lump VR headsets and motion controllers in the same box as the console.
• Digital-only console: A major leak has revealed that Sony might take a step to make the PS6 a digital console. What this means is that the PlayStation 6 will be completely disc-less. People might disprove, but with promises of faster internet speeds, you can't really complain.
• Wireless integration: Modern PlayStation systems don't have much in the way of wireless integration, other than wireless Wi-Fi, but the PS6 will most likely turn out to be different. Sony has indicated that developing wireless charging technology has taken a significant amount of time and money. If the company succeeds, it will trigger a new revolution. Because the PlayStation 6 is still in early development, we don't know if it will be a success or not, but Sony has been upbeat in its updates thus far, so stay tuned.
