MULTI - CRORE    ONLINE FRAUD CASE

Kochi: Two further people were taken into custody on Friday by Ernakulam Rural Police, who are looking into a ring that may have carried out a multi-core online fraud.

The rural cybercrime police in Bengaluru detained the accused, Rajesh (21) of Ambur, Tamil Nadu, and Chakradhar (35), of Bangalore. In the same case, police had earlier detained Manoj Sreenivas, another native of Bengaluru.

The allegations filed by two natives of Ernakulam who were deceived out of Rs 7 and Rs 11 short, respectively, form the basis of the police probe. Based on their research, authorities believe the suspects committed a Rs 250 crore scam by using more than 50 accounts.

The victims were promised enormous rewards for doing online chores such as like movies on YouTube. According to the authorities, the accused even paid the victims little sums of money in order to win their trust.

Subsequently, they were forced to "invest" enormous quantities of money, and the accused requested additional payments, claiming it was tax. According to the police, the accused had tricked naive people into opening current accounts, which were actually run by Maonoj and the racket without the victims' knowledge. In order to keep the police from tracking the money back to them, this was done. Over a thousand transactions were made in a single day using one account, according to the police.

Police were informed by Manoj that he had met Kevin and Jaison, two people who were purportedly employed in Dubai, and that they had joined him as collaborators.

These social media profiles and names were discovered by the police to be fraudulent, and they were run out of China. The money obtained through the scam is suspected by the police of being turned into cryptocurrency and sent overseas.

The case is being looked into by a team under rural SP Vaibhav Saxena, which is being directed by cyber police inspector M B Latheef.
