In Pakistan, we often talk about Russia and China as if they are the same, as a de facto alliance there are two separate organizations. The Moscow faith in China has no 'conditions', 'content'. Different problems become a color in Russia's approach to China, which is different based on its importance to the given issue. These include the promotion of China's regional and regional consolidation status, the Belt and Road Promotion Division, basic security interests, changing Western attitudes towards China among others.

However, these relationships should do everything for their own national and international interests, not coercion by the West. The Crimean occupation brought both closer. In 2015, the Russian-led Eurasian Economic Union and the Chinese-led Belt and Road Initiative were named as compliments, as President Xi Jinping visited Moscow. Russia probably wanted China to extend its economic arm in order to finance at least some  projects lost due to EU investment due to sanctions. However, China did nothing to break the jam-lock lock. Things, however, continued to improve between the two, but they remembered only their national interests.

The emerging role of China in its own unique way has not yet been considered a threat to Russia, unlike in the West. Russia sees Western policy of sending their ideas to other countries based on a price system as a threat. However, the Chinese approach is based on trade and economic factors. Therefore, Russia-China's closeness is not based on ideology but on one's distance. They work inside an open and informal building. They therefore have no clear direction on any joint action they can take on the issues.

It would be safe to assume, we wisely think that, relationships will change in the future. China is emerging and may continue on this path for some time. However, if China is in a very strong position, will Russia begin to see it as a rival instead of an ally? What will be the economic and international economic and political fluctuations at that time? China's middle ground policy will not attract Russia in the future. With the recent change in the Western context of not acting like a 'world policeman', the outbreak between Russia and China will intensify. Putin's departure will likely improve relations with the EU, especially ahead of Ukraine. All of this will not happen immediately,  will happen in another decade, unless.

Enter Pakistan. I do not pay much attention to the excellent series of Russian-China relations. Lack of strategy. Navigating from ship to ship, you navigate with short-term gains at long-term costs. One aspect that ‘experts’ do not cease to articulate is the ‘global strategic position’ enjoyed by Pakistan. The time has come when this most important position will be as strong as the neck of a country. With the departure of the US and allied forces off the coast of Afghanistan, Afghan goods have been frozen, more and more refugees arriving in Pakistan during the FATF, WB, IMF pressures will be dragged down due to this strategic position. Our ‘experts’ fail to understand that as times change, relationships change, a strong point can become weaker and vice versa.

Already, China's Belt and Road Initiative and the growing US cooperation with India lead Moscow to partner with Pakistan. The ball has begun to roll. As Pakistani ‘experts’ happily lamented the planned arrangements for a meeting between Khan and Putin during the recent  visit to Moscow, they completely missed the big picture. The most touching malaise here.

One example of an increase in overture, Russia is looking towards Pakistan as a power client in the near future. 'Currently, Pakistan has 1.5 billion cubic feet of gas per day (BCD), which could double by 2025.' [Viktor Katina, "Qatar Looks Over The Emerging Gas Market",  6 April 2021] Russia considers Pakistan a consumer to help it meet its triple expedition of LNG exports soon. Pakistan's desire to obtain liquid natural gas in Russia is due to government mismanagement. Failure to place an order on time, and to deal with rising demand compared to the provision of lower services, the cost of importing goods is subject to strict conditions, leading to an increase in electricity prices through increased subsidies. This situation also reduces consumer purchasing power, creating higher production costs, thus making locally available products more expensive and exporting less competitive.

Putting more responsibility on destroying warehouses, Khan announced that Pakistan would import two million tons of wheat into Russia under a two-state agreement [without gas]. How this will happen after tightening international sanctions on Russia remains to be seen. One thing is certain: this will not sit well with Western nations.

The PTI government did not address the cause of the decline in domestic production over the past three years. This includes an increase in the cost of seeds, diesel, fertilizers, and low-quality in various areas and instead focuses on importing wheat. This means that production will continue to decline without holding on to reasons and an increase in wheat imports leading to pressure on the target areas. The imbalance between imports and exports will grow exponentially.

On the other hand, China's role in South Asia is growing rapidly,  it is in Russia's interest to oppose the measure. What is better than choosing Pakistan not only the rival of the Indian subcontinent but also the ground on which China, presented its BRI signing project: CPC. Not a Russian ally by any means, Pakistan needs to have a policymaking process under analysis of currents and trends in order to establish a policy based on a different timeline to make it stronger than to lead it in any situation.
