What To Do With Employees Who Don’t Properly Manage Their Time

Are you a business owner? If you do, however, there is a good chance that your workforce will have employees who do not know how to manage their time. What do you do with these employees? If you do not know how to proceed, please continue reading.

Foremost, anything needs to be done. The last thing you want to do is fly an employee with poor time management under the radar. Most business owners don’t think about it at the time, but there are dire consequences for not hiring poorly employed workers.

One of the many consequences of allowing one of your employees to waste your time and yours is that others are likely to follow suit. Even some of your best performing employees may waste time socializing or surfing the Internet when they see that others can do the same and stay away from it.

There is also the possibility of putting your business profits at risk. When an employee spends a lot of time surfing the Internet or wasting time in general, you take longer to complete projects. This will have an impact on your business profits. For example, you can then pay your employee overtime to complete work that needs to be completed during normal working hours.

If your business deals directly with the public, even an employee who does not know how to manage their time can have a negative impact on public perception of your company. Expiration dates should not be missed, but proper time management is important when dealing with clients. Have you agreed to prepare the forms on time for your client? If you do, be prepared when they think. If not, your customer can look elsewhere. Also, areas where employees roam around the office and socialize appear to be unprofessional.

So, now you know the consequences of allowing an employee with a bad time management to slide, but what should you do?

It is important to bring the time management error to the attention of your employee or employees. Let them know that wasting time on the clock is not acceptable, especially when they have other tasks or projects they are working on. Make it clear that socialization is only for leisure time.

Next, try not to continue with the same behavior. Employees who are warned to waste their time and company time should have no excuse to do so. Give one last warning before procrastination. This action may also include terminating your employee position with the company.

Even if dismissal is an option, you may still have what you consider to be a good employee. If so, you can opt for time management training. This can be done by yourself or with the services of a third party. Of course, if you have many employees who do not know how to manage their time, you may want to opt for company-wide training.

If you decide to host your own time management training seminar without using outside help, share tips with your employees, explaining the importance of making the most of your time in the workplace, as well as the consequences of doing so. This leaves no room for exceptions, and you should see a significant improvement in productivity in your office.

In short, whether you are a business owner or just an office manager, it is important to make sure that all your employees are working to the best of their ability. Your company and your personal reputation will lead to the downfall of those who do not work to their potential.
