Burns can be divided into three types. Reddening of the epidermis, blisters on the skin, and burning of the tissues under the skin.
The 'Rule of Nines' scale measures the effects of fire on the body. Based on this, each part of the body is divided by a value of 9. Its risks are calculated based on the numerical value of the body part in the burn.
Based on this criterion, more than 40 percent of burns are considered life-threatening. In the presence of such damage, cold water should not be left on the wound. Alternatively, you can apply the ointment only with a damp cloth. Less than 40 percent of those affected have a chance to be cured.
If the nature of the injury is more than 40 percent, the chance of survival is halved. That too, if 70 percent, the chances of survival are low. But, no matter the percentage of damage, the cure will vary depending on the body weight and health of the victim.
Prevention and first aid
1. In the event of a fire/fire around you, notify the fire department immediately.
2. You can try to put out the fire by using sand for fires caused by oil and acid. Do not try to extinguish the fire by pouring water. This is because water can increase irritation and damage to the burn. Water can be used for other fires.
3. If you are near a person on fire at the time of the accident, you can immediately push him down and tighten any of the carpet, blanket, or cane around him to prevent the fire from spreading.
4. If the clothes on fire catch fire, lie down and roll. Do not run in fear. The fire burns about faster than the speed of the wind while running.
5. It is wrong to rub or pinch small sores and blisters caused by touching hot utensils or splashing boiling oil or hot objects. Doing so creates opportunities for germs to get inside the sore and blister. The blisters should be lightly bandaged with antiseptic. Do not bandage tightly.
6. Honey is the perfect medicine for burns. For minor burns, honey can be rubbed on the wound.
7. On severe burns should be covered with air. It will reduce pain and infection.
8. If the cloth is sticking to the body, do not rush to remove the cloth.
9. In case of severe burns, the victim should be taken to the nearest hospital immediately.
10. Clothing plays a major role in the damage caused by fire. It is safe for cooks to wear cotton clothes. Because it will reduce the amount of damage caused by fire, it will ignite easily and cause more damage if worn with silk or nylon. Synthetic fiber also ignites easily in clothing. Melt in heat and stick to the body. It will continue to be a fiery trigger. These also carry the risk of not extinguishing the fire easily. Also, it can cause problems during treatment.
11. Many times, rescue workers are the ones caught in the fires. The victim should be approached with a well-spread sack or blanket securely on the front. If none of these are present, water can be used to extinguish the fire.
12. Normally, when cooking at home, it is possible to spray boiling water or oil on the body of the handkerchief. This can cause severe irritation of the skin. At such times, it is a mistake to apply pen ink, coffee powder, or ointment to the affected area. Chemical compounds such as pen ink and coffee powder have no medicinal properties that can heal ulcers. Therefore, pouring these on burns will increase the risk of infection. Apart from that, it can also cause difficulty in cleaning the ulcers.
13. Cleaning fire wounds with sharp objects is the wrong approach. Doing so can lead to an increase in infection.
14. If there is a small burn, ice cubes can be placed on the injured area, and the wound can be moistened with cold water. Soap should not be used for burns. This will increase the pain and irritation. After a while, you can apply 'Silver Ointment' and take it to the hospital.
15. If the injury is minor, it may be necessary to get vaccinated against tetanus, also known as TD.
16. When a person suffers from burns, minerals such as water, sodium, and potassium are expelled from his body. Therefore, the injured person can often be given water mixed with salt and baking soda. Do not drink if vomiting occurs.
