There is no doubt that working out offers some amazing health benefits. However, experts say that over training could have negative side effects, some of which are pretty serious. If you find that your body is displaying any of the following symptoms, perhaps it is time to listen to it, slow down, and give it the rest it deserves by doing something not as strenuous. Also do consult a trainer who can guide you and create a programme that does not over stress your body and compromise your health.

 

Decreased performance

If you notice a dip in your performance while working out especially when doing aerobic exercises like cycling, swimming and running, it means that your body is being pushed too hard.

Drop in energy

If you have been missing the familiar high after working out or if you constantly feel physically and mentally tired, it may mean that your body is exhausted and needs a rest.

Poor mental health

Research published in published in the journal Preventative Medicine found that if you are exercising for more than 7.5 hours a week, you could be prone to anxiety, depression and poor mental health. An overstressed body could also lead to confusion, irritability, anger, and mood swings.

Sleeplessness

While moderate exercise can relax you can give a night of blissful sleep, too much can have you tossing and turning all night due to restlessness and disrupted sleep

Aches and pains

When you don’t give your muscles time to recover, it results in persistent soreness that can seriously hamper your everyday activities, besides making you feel lousy.

Dark or reddish urine

IF you notice colour changes in your urine after a workout it could signal a condition called rhabdomyolysis, where substances from damaged muscle tissue leak into the blood. This could also cause kidney problems.

Heart problems

Yes, you heard right. Research by German scientists has found that those with existing heart disease, who overdo high intensity exercise, are at high risk of death from a heart attack or stroke. Another Swedish study published online in the journal Heart, found that those who do endurance exercises more than five times a week could develop an irregular heart rhythm when they are older.

Joint problems

Over-training with weights that are too heavy, too many times a week often results in joint injuries.

Missing periods

When you train too hard, you may start missing your periods. Called amenorrhea, this is caused by a dip in oestrogen levels that can also lead to osteoporosis

High resting heart rate

When you heart is under too much stress, the rate at which it beats rises leading to an increased resting heart rate. Monitoring your heart rate in the morning will let you know of any changes. Any increase from your normal rate could mean that your body is overworked.

Doing workout is good but doing it beyond your limits and it will show you the another side of it and so don't do over exercising and take care of your health.
