There is a common misconception that you have to starve yourself to lose weight. This is not true! On the contrary, you should eat to lose weight. It is a Glycemic Indicator that can help you decide what is going on in your body. Let me explain. Your body needs glucose, which is a type of sugar, and is a major source of fuel for the body. The body constantly strives to maintain blood sugar levels and it is the carbohydrates we eat that turn into sugar that enters the bloodstream to feed all the body's cells. Glucose is the only fuel your brain uses and it is the brain that uses more energy than any other part of your body. When your blood sugar drops, you starve the brain and you may experience various symptoms such as feeling weak and lazy, drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, headache, irritability, tremors, rapid heartbeat, and even anxiety and panic attacks. Carbohydrates alone do not make a healthy body. We need a balance of protein, carbohydrates, fats, water and exercise to maintain health. The greater the difficulty we have with weight problems than diet with a higher glycemic index. These are foods high in sugar or foods high in refined carbohydrates. If you eat too much carbohydrates (which produce insulin) then excess glucose is stored as fat. You can counter that by eating protein too, (which produces glucagons). Glucagons encourage the use of fats for energy. Insulin and glucagon balance balance normal blood sugar levels. A body with a high insulin level promotes stored fat and disease. Foods with a high glycemic index are foods such as family roots, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, rutabaga, yams etc. If you want to eat potatoes I will choose yam or sweet potatoes (except honey and brown sugar). These are very low in the glycemic scale. And rice, pasta, corn, lots of bread are on the scale and fruits such as bananas, apricots and pineapples. Other low-fat foods are vegetables like broccoli, lettuce and cabbage family, various beans, milk and soy. I would also like to mention oil. Being overweight is not a bad thing at all. Our diet needs fat to stay healthy. Fats provide fuel for the body and help to build cell membranes and hormones and also help protect our bodies. The fat in our diet is what gives us that feeling of satisfaction. You do not need a lot of fatty foods. Stick with good oils such as olive oil and stay away from saturated or saturated fats. Partial size is very important. The law to remember is; if you have about 3 oz. protein and has a high carb index. then eat only 3oz of that carb. It is a one-to-one measure. Protein and low fat index. it can be 3 oz of protein and 6 oz of carb. It is an average of 1 to 2. If you eat 6 small meals a day in the right amount you should be able to lose weight easily.
