For all MP3 music owners, the future of car audio has come to you. Gone are the days when you had to burn your MP3s on a CD to play them in your car's sound system. Sony recently released the MEX-1GP CD receiver, a CD receiver that also has a built-in flash memory unit of 1 GB. So now your car audio CD receiver behaves in the same way as your iPod or other type of MP3 player. A 1 GB flash memory unit can store up to 500 of your favorite songs, giving you plenty of time to play your music. This little machine will make even the longest ride of your car smoother and more enjoyable, as you will no longer have to worry about changing CDs.
In addition to playing MP3s, this CD receiver also plays CDs (as the name implies) and CD-R and CD-RW burns so that those who wish to play their old CDs can benefit from this excellent product. However, the real attraction of this new car audio unit is to play MP3s. The flash memory unit is located on the removable faceplate. Here's a USB port that allows you to connect a faceplate to your PC (such as your iPod or another MP3 player). Once your faceplate is connected to your CD, simply drag and drop MP3 files into the flash memory unit of the faceplate. Unfortunately the faceplate is only compatible with Windows operating systems, so all Mac owners will need to go to a friend's house to copy MP3s to or from Sony MEX-1GP.
The new receiver is also aesthetically pleasing. It is finished in a very bright black color and features a 13-component LCD display for easy navigation of track and title information. The screen shows the album, artist and song name when playing your MP3 music files. Users can push or duplicate tracks, albums or groups directly by using the controls on the faceplate or through the remote control provided. The MEX-1GP unit has a built-in 208-watt power amplifier and a three-band rating that allows for clear, rich sound. The preferred rear output / subwoofer preamp, controls the frequency and output level of the external amplifier.
After installing this receiver and being assisted for a little over a week, I must say that this product really impressed me. First of all, the sound quality when playing MP3s with this unit is exceptional. If you did not know it well, you would probably think that you are playing a CD with a clean, clear playing quality of this head unit. During a three-hour trip (three hours round trip, six hours in total) I was able to listen to one song up and down with a selection of completely different songs on my return, all without the hassle of changing. CDs and tolerance for playing. I am just surprised that it has taken so long for a product like this to enter the market, especially with the increasing popularity of portable MP3 devices like the iPod over the last few years. While it may take some time for a similar product to enter the market, I am sure Sony will have more competitors soon, which will benefit car enthusiasts like me.
