What Sets Jamal Mohamed College Apart: The Success of BA Arabic Department

Jamal Mohamed College, established in 1951 by M. Jamal Mohamed Sahib and N.M. Khajamian Rowther, stands as a government-aided and self-financed institution in Tiruchirappalli, affiliated with Bharathidasan University. The college, spread across 87 acres, has a unique division - the Day session for male students and the Evening session for female students.

History:

Founded in 1951, initially affiliated to the University of Madras and later to Bharathidasan University since 1982, the college is managed by the Society of Jamal Mohamed College. Acknowledged as one of India's top thirty colleges by the Danforth Foundation of the USA in 1957, it attained post-graduate status in 1963.

Recognized by UGC in 1972 under sections 2(F) and 12(B) of the University Grants Commission Act 1956, the college became one of the ten "Lead colleges" in the University area in 1977. Accredited at the Five Star Level by NAAC in 2002, it gained Autonomous Status from UGC and Bharathidasan University in 2004–2005. Subsequent accolades include NAAC A-Grade (2nd Cycle) in 2009 and "CPE" status Phase-I and Phase-II by the UGC in 2011 and 2016.

Recent Achievements:

In 2020, the college improved its NIRF ranking from 59th to 54th. Recognized with Three Star status by the Institutions Innovation Council in 2019, DST FIST Scheme has been extended to multiple departments in 2019 and 2020.

Current Status:

The college has grown to offer 23 UG and 20 PG programs across 19 departments with approved research centers. Boasting around 12,000 students, it has 145 Government Aided teaching faculty and 354 staff members under the self-finance stream.

Celebrating its silver Jubilee in 1971, followed by the Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee in 2001 and 2011 respectively, Jamal Mohamed College continues its journey towards greater heights in higher education, aligning with the vision of its founders and current Management Committee Members.
