The dictionary definition of envy is “a feeling of dissatisfaction and anger that arises and is accompanied by desiring the things or qualities of another person.” People have feelings of jealousy for many reasons. A new emerging form of jealousy is what I call Purse Envy Syndrome (PES). PES has had different characteristics in different people and had different meanings over the past few years. PES has been a men-controlled disease, though few will admit it. Men have been fascinated by women's bags since they were boys. Like boys they pull their mother's bags for attention and sometimes search the bags for good things to keep inside. As they grow older, they do the same thing with their girlfriends and then their wives. Not only do they admire what she has in her purse but they often ask her to carry her things in her purse! Men are not the only ones with PES. Women can have it too! In fact, they find it worse than men! Women dream of carrying label bags for designers or celebrities. Who wouldn’t want Kate Spade, Louis Vuitton, Brighton, Coach, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, or Dooney and Bourke? Many women are not lucky enough to buy designer labels, but luckily for us, there are some very good models on the market. If you decide to splurge and buy a genuine designer bag, please buy it from a reputable source. Unfortunately, there are retailers who are trying to sell replicas as a real thing. There are many sources with a good reputation for buying replicas as well. The same should not infringe on the rights of the real fund. They should by no means pass them off as real. Women lined up in fashion magazines looking for what celebrities wore and what accessories they wore and carried. Everyone wants to be able to play the latest fashion. It seems that one of the best ways to do this is to look at the stars and try to imitate their style. It seems that each star is trying to make its statement by wearing and carrying different designers, shapes and styles. So how do we maintain speed? We are also lucky! We must not keep pace. We choose the styles we like best and match those. Women also look to their friends and to people they meet in shopping malls or restaurants for new styles. How often do you see someone with a wallet and say to himself, “I want to know where you got that wallet?” Sometimes you may even have the courage to approach a woman and ask her questions. You need not be afraid to ask someone where he got his wallet from — it can be fun! Don't you like it when someone notices what you have or shoes or a wallet that you carry? Many women are very happy to tell you where they found their wallet. If they do not tell you, try searching online — you may be lucky and find it! Women worry about matching their shoes with their bags or finding the right purse to match a dress. After all, the right bag makes the dress perfect! Rest assured, in today's world, a bag does not have to carry a pair of shoes! You can be unruly and crazy, calm and depressed, follow rules or be good — it all depends on what makes you feel good about yourself. Your wallet says a lot about you, so use it to expose the many nuances you MAKE. Carry different bags at different times that allow you to display your many sides. So, what is the PES response and how can you overcome it? There is no immediate response to this ongoing disease. Most men will not buy a wallet — if they do, they will fear being called sissy. The men's bag is gaining traction in Europe and Australia, but probably won't get the thunderstorm in the US. Women will always want to look their best and have the latest fashion. PES is here to stay and will probably grow to very large proportions. My suggestion is that you give up the disease and go buy a wallet!
