Pakistan will face England in the all-important final of the T20 World Cup on 13 November 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
As we look at the previous matches, including today's, it seems like history is repeating itself because many similarities were seen in this year's T20 World Cup, just like the 1992 World Cup.
Back In 1992, Pakistan struggled to have a perfect start as they lost the World Cup opening match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The Men in Green also lost their opening game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in this year's T20 World Cup.
Pakistan, led by Imran Khan, was also defeated by India in their group-stage match.
Whereas Babar Azam's side also suffered defeat at the hands of India during their group stage match. Both teams struggled to qualify for the semi-final in their times, but they did it by winning their last three consecutive group stage matches.
Another similarity we can see is that only one point difference pushed us to move toward the semi-final round of the World Cup.
Now here we see huge coincidences, Imran Khan's side faced New Zealand in the semi-final of the 1992 World Cup and defeated them to move on towards the historic final.
Pakistan, led by Babar Azam also defeated New Zealand in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup and progressed toward the final.
England defeated India today to reach the mega-event final. Still, here we see only one similarity in 1992, the English team defeated South Africa (D/L) to reach the final of the World Cup.
As history is repeating itself, can we see England taking their 30-year-old revenge, or will the Men in Green take us back to the days of winning the cup, just like in 1992?
England’s Mark Wood struggling to be fit for T20 World Cup final vs Pakistan
"I tried my best to make the last game but I couldn't bowl at the intensity and speeds required to play for England," Wood told the BBC.
England pace spearhead Mark Wood said he is unsure if he will recover from a hip injury in time to play in Sunday’s Twenty20 World Cup final against Pakistan but could throw his name into the hat if skipper Jos Buttler desperately needs him.
Wood, who is nursing a right hip problem, missed England’s brilliant 10-wicket victory over India on Thursday along with injured batsman Dawid Malan.
“I tried my best to make the last game but I couldn’t bowl at the intensity and speeds required to play for England,” Wood told the BBC.
“I couldn’t get my hip going. Hopefully if required I can try and get it right for this game — I don’t know if I’ll be able to. The team did really well last game — if the captain desperately needs me and I’m fit enough then I’ll put my name in the hat like everyone else.
” Wood’s pace has added bite to England’s attack in Australia with the 32-year-old claiming nine wickets inThe fast bowler missed the Indian Premier League this year after sustaining an elbow injury during England’s test series in the West Indies and the team will hope he recovers before their test series in Pakistan which starts on Dec. 1. the group stage of the tournament.
