Pakistan's capability to safeguard its nuclear weapons has earned the "confidence" of the United States.
The United States has stated that it has "confidence" in Pakistan's capacity to safeguard its nuclear arsenal, days after President Joe Biden stated that the country possessed "nuclear weapons without any cohesion."
At a press briefing on Monday, the state department's Vedant Patel stated that the United States was "confident of Pakistan’s commitment and its ability to secure its nuclear assets" and that the United States "has always viewed a secure and prosperous Pakistan as critical to US interests."
The remarks were made following a meeting between Pakistan envoy Masood Khan and counselor Derek Chollet from the State Department.
Following the meeting, Chollet tweeted that he had met the ambassador to discuss the "longstanding partnership" between the two countries and to strengthen ties.Khan wrote the following day that he had discussed "ways to build further resilience in #PAKUS ties and boost strategic trust" with Chollet.His reply was as follows:
Neither Pakistan's information ministry nor its foreign ministry provided a response when the media inquired about the statement from the United States.
Pakistan summoned the US ambassador following Biden's remarks at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on October 13.

Pakistan's foreign minister, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, stated two days later that Pakistan had contacted the US ambassador to request an explanation for Biden's statement.
"We are fully capable of safeguarding our nuclear weapons, and they meet every international standard in accordance with the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] as far as security and safety is concerned," Bilawal stated at a press conference held in the southern city of Karachi.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also rejected Biden's claims, calling them "factually incorrect and misleading."

In addition, Donald Blome was appointed by the United States earlier this year. This is seen by many as a change of attitude given that the United States had not had an ambassador to Pakistan for four years.
