On election day, Americans talk a lot about how the President and the Republican Party will go to America, not the way the country wants to go. They may not be respectful, but they do not care. The most important issue in the campaign has been two issues according to the exit polls. It was the CORRUPTION, and the IRAQ, of that program.
The President was quick with a clear response to the election. I personally heard that Donald Rumsfeld would be fired 3 or 4 weeks after the election to release him with full dignity. The President has sent the Duck Secretary now a few hours after the voters made their decision. In doing so, the President confirms that Congress will approve the nomination of Robert Gates, not the Democratic Congress, on January 07.
What kind of person is Robert Gates, the D Sec, as they call the Secretary of Defense? There are similarities in this selection. At the height of the View Nam war, after six years in power, Robert McNamara was an old man, beaten and worried about his involvement in the war. Her children were all around her. His friends suggested he continue to be part of this business? McNamara left, and Lyndon Johnson replaced Clark Clifford, one of my heroes who had been the legal adviser to all Democratic Alliance presidents since Harry Truman. Clifford was the lawyer for Joe Kennedy, the father of the assassinated President tomorrow.
Johnson thought Clifford would be the perfect HAWK in Vietnam, Nam, and increase the pressure on the war. Instead, he advised Johnson, that he was in an invincible position, and advised on a negotiating agreement. Johnson has swallowed, announced he will not be appointed to his team, or re-appointed in the coming months.
Robert Gates, newly appointed Secretary of Defense, is the second attempt by the President to contact his father's advisers TO HELP HIM. For the past 3 years, he has never spoken to the most important adviser he could talk to, about what he had done in Iraq - his father, George Herbert Walker Bush. As the Iraq war has become a hotbed of unrest, the President has appointed his father's CIA director, Robert Gates, to intervene and change the situation.
Gates was a student of Brent Scow croft (formerly National Security Adviser), and Condoleezza Rice, our Secretary of State.in Moscow, croft is considered a well-known foreign policy expert at the White House during the reign of George HW Bush. Many people think Secretary of State James Baker shot, which is partially correct. Moscow croft was an experienced specialist. Baker studied as the years went by, and he became the most successful Secretary of State. Gates was always present, a full-time intelligence analyst who was the only CIA official to take the event as Director.
The current status of the President
The President is in trouble, and the people around him called Neo-Cons put him in his own predicament. What you should understand is that George Bush unlike many other politicians believes in what he says, and speaks what he believes. Most politicians play for the masses. The hero of the man was probably Harry Truman, who left the White House about 25% in 1953, and continued to be respected by later generations of Americans.
President Bush is not playing to the crowd. This was evident in his news conferences where he could not contain himself but expressed his feelings when reporters asked stupid questions called “SHOWBOAT”. Bush will not have your part. He’s a real guy who lives his life that way. If the Iraqi Study Group, led by former Secretary of State Baker, gives the President strong advice on Iraq, he may take it. Bush is not a fool. You know that the war is not over. You also know that the American people like to keep their Presidents slow when it comes to wars, and the free ride is now over.
In the meantime, the pressure on President Bush could be dire. Defense Secretary Rumsfeld has been taking the President's heat lightly. Rumsfeld as a cover for this country's anger is over. Bush will take the heat himself. He has no problem with that if the President continues to believe that his actions are right, and he still believes. The President is always looked down upon by his opponents. You do not win two national elections, and one congressional election between being a fool.
Bob Gates will change things in the Department of Defense, and change them quickly. Do not believe at all that Rumsfeld was wrong in everything he did, that is nonsense. He did four very bad things. First, he underestimated the need for an Iraq war of US military standards. More soldiers are needed to govern the country and to eliminate dissatisfaction, rather than attacking and seizing power. Second, he acknowledged or encouraged the destruction of the Iraqi army. That power could be used to rebuild and control post-war Iraq. We just have to PAY half of what we pay Halliburton for a failed US policy.
Third, he participated in, or encouraged, the expulsion of Sunni government officials from the Iraqi government before obtaining COMPETENT REPLACEMENTS to replace the deportees. They were able to turn on the electricity, and to keep government equipment running. Even General Patton at the end of the WW II coup used Nazi officials until he was able to train his officers. Fourth, Iraqi police were fired, and young people had to be found, tested, and trained - 3 years later.
What does it mean? We do not know if democracy will have a chance to prosper in Iraq. It's too late, too much time is wasted. The Presidential Team, so the President FAIL to make a policy that would have worked if it had been used correctly, we probably would not have known. The American people have become impatient waiting for the President to correct his mistakes - and to force him to change the election.
Robert Gates was his first response. James Baker and the Iraqi Study Group in the next few weeks will be his second response. See changes to the Department of Defense as soon as Gates is approved by the Senate. Do you use neocons in sequence? When he does, he realizes that we are on the verge of a new policy.
