What Mobility Exercises to Improve Your Muscle and Joint Movement.

Movement is defined as the ability to make full use of your muscles and joints.  Being able to improve your mobility can reduce your flexibility, fitness, reduce pain and reduce the chance of injury.

If you are suffering from movement problems, doing some movement exercises can help you regain full use of your muscles and joints.  Here are 5 different exercises that will help you improve your moving skills.

1. Inch Worms:

Inch worms work on your femurs, hips and calves.  To do them, keep your legs about hips wide apart.  Stretch your arms out towards the floor and keep your knees straight.

Then, walk your hands forward until you reach full board position, then walk your hands towards your toes.  Keep your knees straight while walking with your hands behind your back.  When your hands are turned to your toes, stand up straight.

Try to do three rounds 10 times each.  If your fitness level is low, start again 5 times.

2. Band pull-overs:

Band pull-overs work your upper body, including your shoulders, scapula, spine, ribs and hips.  You will need a fitness band to do this.

Bend your knees and lie on your back with your legs flat on the floor.  Keep your shoulders, hips, back and legs on the floor during the movement.  Pull the band from the top to the waist, then pause.  Then, bring your hands over your head.  Make sure it is a fluid movement.

Try to do three rounds 12 to 15 times each.

3. Shoulder Pass-through:

Cross your deltoid, chest, upper back and rotating cuffs.  You will need a broom or PVC hose to do this exercise.

Stand shoulder-width apart, holding your whip or hose parallel to the floor, using a shallow grip (your fingers should be away from you).  Keep your arms straight and raise your object above your head.  Keep your center stable and bring the object behind your head as far as possible and hold for a few seconds.

Repeat this exercise five times for three rounds.

4. Neck Circles:

Neck pain can cause severe cramps in your daily activities.  Neck movement can help reduce neck pain, and neck circles can help with neck movement.

To make neck circles, sit or stand with your hands on your lap.  Lean your neck to one side until you feel your neck stretch, then roll your head forward.  Bring your chin to your chest, then rotate your head to the other side, until you feel that side stretch.

Make five half circles and move each one slowly and fluidly.

5. Lung with the largest extension in the world:

The lungs help improve the movement of your thoracic spine and hips.  To do them, pull forward with one foot.  Then, lean forward and place both your hands on the floor.

Twist, climb with the opposite hand, and reach the sky.  Take four deep breaths in this position, then turn your hand to the floor and return to the standing position.

Repeat on the opposite side.  Five goals on each side.

If stretching on your own is not effective, physical therapy can also help improve mobility.
