ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Mercedes ended the disagreement over the Formula One season homestretch on Thursday when it withdrew its appeal of the controversial finish that bring Lewis Hamilton a record eighth crown.
Mercedes had filed a brace of demurrers following Sunday's race, in which a late crash at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix helped Max Verstappen beat Hamilton for the title. Both demurrers were dismissed and Mercedes also asked for retrospection at the International Court of Appeal, a process that could have dragged into coming time.
“ We left Abu Dhabi in unbelief of what we had just witnessed, Mercedes said in a statement. “ Of course, it’s part of the game to lose a race, but it’s commodity different when you lose faith in racing.” Mercedes was protesting the use of the safety auto following a crash with five stages remaining. Hamilton had a nearly 12-alternate lead with Verstappen in alternate when the crash brought out the unheroic flag. The race director originally said lapped motorists couldn't pass the safety auto, also reversed the call in a decision that returned Verstappen to second when the race proceeded with a stage remaining. Hamilton was denied a record eighth title, one further than Michael Schumacher. Mercedes said Thursday, ahead of the season-ending fete in Paris latterly in the evening, that it decided with Hamilton not to move forward with the appeal. Its kick was over safety auto rules that “ were applied in a new way that affected the race result, after Lewis had been in a commanding lead and on course to win (the crown)" and Mercedes said its appeal was “ in the interest of sporting fairness."Mercedes said it was satisfied after conversations with both the FIA and Formula One over clarity on the rules “ so that all challengers know the rules under which they're contending, and how they will be executed. The FIA late Wednesday said it'll conduct an analysis of the ending and conceded the contestation is “ darkening the image of the crown.” The FIA delivered a report on the incident to the World Motor Sport Council in Paris and said a further review will help understand why the race ended as it did.
“ We drink the decision by the FIA to install a commission to completely dissect what happed in Abu Dhabi and to ameliorate the robustness of rules, governance 1. We also drink that they've invited the brigades and motorists to take part,” Mercedes said Mercedes also complimented Verstappen and Red Bull and called the 24- time-old Dutchman an “ indefectible sportswoman on and off the track” who “ delivered a faultless performance.”

We look forward to taking the fight to you on the track coming season. Red Bull platoon top Christian Horner on Wednesday had called for the contestation to end. He also said several variables out of Red Bull’s control came into play that decided the race, beginning with Nicholas's crash with five stages remaining.
“ We didn’t ask Nicholas to crash, that happens, “ And we plant it surprising that Mercedes strategically, you know, they left Lewis out on a set of tires that had to have been close to 40 stages on them. So of course, if the race were to renew, he was going to be vulnerable.
