I thought I would clarify some misconceptions about marketing in this two-part series: What Marketing Can Do for You and What Not for Marketing. This issue is about what advertising can do. While there is no question that a strong marketing plan can boost your business, it cannot fix everything. Below are 5 things that advertising will not do for you: 1. Marketing will not make you successful overnight. Just because you start a marketing program does not mean that you will see your business explode immediately. Marketing is about getting your name in front of the target market on a regular basis until they finally decide to try it out. In that note, if you are in trouble right now - sales are down, new business is not going down as planned - depending on how bad the problem is the marketing system may not be enough to save you. A successful marketing plan takes time to operate and may not work, with little money. If you are nervous about one (or both) possibility you may need to start looking at other options. 2. Marketing is not about doing something once and then forget about it. Excellent seller reviews. And test. And test. For example, maybe your website does not turn visitors into customers the way they should. You can hire a copyist to get it ready for you. You can check different features to see what raises your conversion rate. That is one way to use the test. You can also browse different news headlines, different offers, etc. 3. Sales cannot fix bad experiences. This is great. If your customers have a bad idea about your products or services or their customer service representatives or sellers, etc., that's all. Worse yet, not only have you lost a good customer, that customer is likely to tell others about his or her bad experience. So now you have lost a lot of potential customers too. Sales can get people to the door, but it cannot guarantee that they will get the information they want to repeat. Before you assume that more marketing is what you need, take a moment and make sure your current customers are really satisfied with your business. 4. Sales cannot fix a faulty business. Like tip number 3, marketing cannot fix cash flow problems or employee problems. All right, I hear you all say, “Well, marketing can't fix money problems. Do you think we are stupid? ” My answer is no, I do not think you are stupid at all. I think what happens sometimes you get caught up in the daily challenges of running a business you can’t see the forest of trees. Let me explain. Suppose you have a business venture. The first thing that comes to your mind may be marketing. After all, the idea of marketing is to increase revenue. That makes sense. However, if you look closely, what you may find is costs that do not work or do not receive invoices in a timely manner. So what you need to fix is your accounting problems rather than changing your marketing. 5. Marketing cannot make people buy things they do not want or cannot afford. No matter how good your product or service is, if you sell to interest-free people or ways to buy it, then your marketing will fail no matter how smart it is. So it all depends on this, before you decide you need more marketing, take a moment and make sure marketing is the right solution for your business. Innovative Exercise - Check the Truth Before you get into a new marketing plan, take the time to analyze what is really going on in your business. Do you really need a marketing plan or your problem: * You can not close the track you have * You do not submit invoices on time or track unpaid accounts * Your customers are not happy with the product or service * Your customers are experiencing a bad experience in it is wrong * You are no longer interested in what you are doing * Your business has a way and a lot of costs And so on. I just really want you to make sure marketing is your problem before you start dealing with it. If you want to grow your business, you must always advertise your business. But if you use marketing as a bandaid for a particular problem, you may end up in trouble.
