You must have heard about the infamous Stanley hotel, right? If not, then you must have read Stephen King’s Novel “The Shining” or watched the movie? Have not heard or seen any of the above? You must be living under a rock, then!
The Stanley Hotel, located at Wonder view Ave, Estes Park, Colorado, is one of the hotels' people double think about when wanting to stay in it. It is famous for paranormal activities that the visitors experience while staying in it. Some such activities were experienced by the famous Author, Stephen King, himself.
Stephen King’s novel “The Shining” was inspired by the events that took place when the author stayed a night at The Stanley Hotel in the year 1974. The complete plot of the story developed in the writer’s head after staying overnight at the hotel. The author along with his wife, Tabitha, stayed at the infamous Room 217, which is most popular for paranormal activities in the hotel. They were reportedly the only overnight guests. The main unusual activity that the author experienced was a horrendous dream of his 3-year-old terrified son who was running across the hallway. The author woke up petrified and lit a cigarette to calm himself down. Till this point, the entire plot of the book had already been sketched in the mind of King.
Soon after the stay at the hotel, Stephen King’s bestseller novel, “The Shining” was published in the year 1977 which later was also turned into a movie with the same name and was released in the year 1980 by Warner Bros. The movie was although, not filmed at the hotel, but the set was designed in such a way, that it resembled the Stanley hotel somehow, to give it a reference.
However, The Stanley Hotel does not have ghosts roaming the hallways or supernatural beings teasing the guests, but surely some sort of presence of unusual beings is there as mentioned by the people staying over. Some rooms such as Room 217 or Room 418 are famous for some disturbing events. People staying in Room 418 have complained that they heard constant noise of children playing in the hallway. Although, fortunately, no casualties or horrific accidents have occurred, it’s just the uneasiness that the people feel while staying. There also have been reports of hysterical laughing coming from hallways or slamming of doors heard by the people residing in the hotel. Constant fluctuation of lights and a very cold environment has also been experienced by people. Visitors have also heard knocking at the doors and sometimes banging as well. It might all be rumors, or maybe they have actually felt or heard these unusual things.
Some myths of the founder of The Stanley Hotel, F. Oscar Stanley, still watching over the hotel are also believed by people. Maybe it’s not a myth, who knows?
One can definitely stay at The Stanley Hotel but if you are too scared after hearing all the haunted stories then you might want to consider booking a room at the second floor of the hotel as it is, allegedly, less haunted than other floors as the least amount of paranormal activities have been reported!
