WHAT MAKES A GOOD TEACHER.

What makes a good teacher.

The world today - if it has reached its current marvel, it is all because of the even more marvelous, wonderful, and amazing teachers. Behind every doctor, engineer, scientist, or reformer who changed this world, there is always the hand of a teacher. A teacher plays a vital role in shaping the pillars that hold up the roof called society. If the teacher is good, so will be the pillars. When given good nourishment and care, just like a sapling grows into a large tree; so will a child, when exposed to the teachings of a good teacher, grows up to be a perfect human being.

But what makes a good teacher? Who Is the fundamental block of our society?

A good teacher is not Someone who teaches only for their benefit, neglecting the fact whether his students have benefitted from their teaching or not. The most important quality that makes a good teacher as, the title 'teacher' itself signifies, is there the desire to teach - the desire to impart knowledge to the young students, the will to help the tiny buds blossom into large, beautiful flowers, the will to mold raw lumps of clay into beautiful pots.

A good teacher should give equal attention to all the students in the class and not choose any favorites. The teacher should try to help the underachievers and the academically backward students in the class and ensure that no child is left behind the others. A good teacher also is good-natured, approachable, and friendly to the students so that even the timidest and scaredy-cat students can muster up the courage to voice their doubts. If a teacher is grouchy and short-tempered, the students will instead be scared to ask even the page number of the lesson.

However, a teacher should also not be too friendly with the students, as the students may take that friendliness for granted and play the fool in the class while the teacher is explaining. There must be a respectable relationship between the teacher and the students. A good teacher must have the proper personality and attitude to learn that respect. As the great Kabir Das had said, "Guru Govind Dou Khade, Kake Lagu play Balihari Guru Aapni, Govind diyo batay," meaning that when both God and teacher stand before you, whose feet would you touch first? God tells you to acknowledge your teacher first because it is through a teacher that you first recognize the existence of God and life, thus, making the teacher far greater than God.

A good teacher should recognize their position of being equal to God and maintain that position with humility. They should be strict yet humorous, patient, accepting of their own mistakes pointed out by the students, and completely devoted to teaching them. They are going to impart to the students. Sometimes, because of the carelessness of uneducated teachers, the future of the children is toyed with, and they end up becoming failures or corrupted people who pollute the world.

Thus, to create a better and more powerful society, good teachers play a vital role. And they should do so with a sense of duty, responsibility, and accountability. The futures of the future leaders of the world are in their hands. And it is up to the teacher whether to take it lightly or with responsibility.
