Introduction
In this poem, the poet stresses the value of leisure. The poet laments that man finds no time to see the numerous beautiful scenes around him. Once man found pleasure in the company of nature, but today he is so pre-occupied in his material needs. He has diverted his attention from nature to worldly matters. So, the poet advises us to stand and look at nature for our benefits in life.
Miserable life of man
Man has made his life miserable by concentrating on his materialistic wealth without enjoying the beauty of nature. We are always in a hurry and have no leisure to look the beauty of nature spread all around us. Man's life becomes miserable and brings nothing but sadness. The poet feels sorry and advises the human beings to stand at a certain place and look carefully at nature. The branches of the trees are beautiful to look at and even the common animals like sheep and cows take rest in the shades of these trees. The poet says firmly that as long as we have committed ourselves to wordly affairs, we can not enjoy the beauty of nature
Beauty of Forest
God has blessed our life with many resources, and the most important one is the forest. The trees are in different sizes and in different colors. The dark green trees produce a soothing effect, but we are busy with the hectic life. We have no time to appreciate the beauty of the forest. Another remarkable sight in the forest is the movement of the squirrels. They hide the nuts (food grains) in the grass for their future use. We can learn a lesson from the life of the squirrel. Man laments over the past and forget his precious moments in life.
Beauty of stream
The poet portrays the natural beauty of the stream to a remarkable extent. The poet says it as a hidden beauty. During daytime, the rays of the sun fall directly on the stream. It gets reflected like stars in the sky during night. Even the pebbles look beautiful in the clear stream of water. The poet uses this powerful imagery to convert a day into night. The poet regrets that man fails to observe the beauty of nature hidden in water.
A Memorable Scene
The poet creates a memorable scene by personifying nature as a beautiful woman. It is very difficult to find a girl or woman who dances in the field. The feet of dancing girl are beautiful and highly attractive. We cannot find time to look at the feet as how they dance. Though we are amused by her performance, we find no time to enjoy the beauty of the dance. Moreover, we find no time to hear the sweet words spoken by her. Though man is at the height of materialistic fortune, he remains poor in the field of nature.
Advice of the poet
The poet advises human beings to start enjoying the beauty of nature. He wants us to leave the stress in our modern life. He says that a meaningful life is like a child's life. We should find time to stand and enjoy the natural resources given to us by God. He further says that a life full of anxieties is a poor life. He wants us to come to the open field and witness the encircling beauty.
Conclusion
The poet wants us to lead a care-free life by having a close bondage with nature. If anyone fails to follow this universal fact, he will have to lead a miserable life in the future.
