What is World Photography Day ?

WHAT IS WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY?

                                    August 19 is observed as world photography day every year.

To pay tribute to the art of photography. As it is said that “a picture is worth a thousand words” because a moment locked in the frame of a camera is capable of delivering a thousand emotions which words may be short of describing.

The day is dedicated to the art, craft, science, and history of photography. World photography day originating from the invention of a photographic process that is called daguerreotype.

 

It was developed by Louis Daguerre and Joseph Nicephoere Niepce (French man) in 1837. They sold the idea to the French Academy of Sciences; on 19 August 1839, the French government announced the invention as a gift to the world.

Thomas Sutton was the first man who takes the first durable color photograph in 1861. However, In 1957 first digital photograph was taken. Later, on August 19, 2010, world photo day hosted its first global online gallery; almost 270 photographers shared their photographs, and people from over 100 countries visited the website.

So, on 19 august, world photography day is celebrated Globally.

 

How to celebrate photography day?

As, photograph capture not only yourself but also the feeling of that moment So, why not go out with family or friends to capture such beautiful moments and make a collage that will remind you of the feeling of the moments.

Suppose you want to go alone, then why not go to the zoo and capture the moments with animals. Or if you live near Los Angeles, why not visit the film city and get permission to capture moments on behalf of world photography day.

If you don`t have a camera, you can take it from your friend or on rent. Make your day memorable and enjoy the world photography day.

If you are a school/college student, you can conduct the workshop on world photography day. So that student gets aware of how to capture a photo and the specialty of the photograph.

Some facts about photography

  • Do you know the first photograph that captures the human being taking by accidentally? Actually, Louis Daguerre intended to capture the photo of Boulevard du Temple in Paris. The man in his photo was standing in the street, getting his shoes polished. Since the Exposure lasted for seven minutes, the man also got captured.

 

  • Estimates suggest that more than 1 trillion photos are taken every year. On average,95 million photos are uploaded daily on Instagram. Over 300 million photos are uploaded to Facebook every day.

 

  • Study conduct by Kelsey Blackburn and James Schrillo from Wake Forest University that apparently, the left side of our faces looks better in photos than the right side. As their study shows, the left side of the face shows a greater intensity of emotion; that`s why this site is more attractive.

 

  • People did not smile in the old photo because the technology wasn`t as advanced, for capturing a picture takes hours to expose correctly, and it is impossible to smile in the same pose for an hour.

 

  • In the Apollo, 11mission took off for the moon the take 12 Hasselblad cameras with them. They are still there on the moon because cameras were too heavy for the return journey of astronauts.
