What is water pollution and how to prevent water pollution?

The most vital resource for surviving on a planet is water. It is the very foundation of life as we know it on Earth. However, if you ever look at a river or lake near your city, it will be clear to you that water pollution is a very severe issue we are dealing with. Let's learn more about the water supply and water contamination. Seventy-six percent of your body is made up of water, as is two-thirds of the Earth's surface.

Water is present everywhere, as you are probably aware.  On the other hand, the amount of water on earth is fixed. It only undergoes state changes and the Water Cycle, a cyclical order. A natural process that occurs continuously in nature is the water cycle. It is the process by which water from lakes, seas, and other bodies of water evaporates and converts to vapor. Then it goes through the condensation phase before becoming precipitation and returning to earth as rain or snow.

Water bodies (such as oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, aquifers, and groundwater) can get contaminated through human activity. Any alteration to the physical, chemical, or biological characteristics of water—regardless of how little or significant—can cause any living organism to suffer. Potable water is water that is deemed safe for consumption by both humans and animals.

effluents from industry and domestic waste,

biological and chemical insecticides,

fertilizers and detergents etc...

Some water pollution is brought on by direct sources, such factories, waste management facilities, refineries, etc., which untreated discharge waste and hazardous byproducts into the nearby water supply. Pollutants that enter water bodies indirectly include those that enter through groundwater, soil, or the atmosphere via acid rain.

Human health is severely impacted by consuming or drinking dirty water in any way. Typhoid, cholera, hepatitis, and other illnesses are brought on by it.

Ecosystems are incredibly dynamic and react to even the smallest environmental changes. If unchecked, rising water contamination can result in the collapse of an entire ecosystem.

Algal development is promoted by chemical buildup and infusion in a body of water. The algae build up into a layer on top of the lake or pond. Because bacteria consume this algae, less oxygen is present in the water body, which has a negative impact on the aquatic life there.

When aquatic species (fish, prawns, seahorses, etc.) eat toxins and pollution in the water, and then people eat them, the food chain becomes unstable.

The greatest strategy to stop widespread water contamination is to work to lessen its negative impacts. We can take a number of simple steps to safeguard ourselves against a time when water is in short supply.

Our primary priority should be water conservation. We are just now becoming aware of the fact that water wasting is a serious problem on a global scale. Domestically, even modest adjustments can have a big impact.

Large-scale water contamination is decreased by treating garbage before dumping it in water bodies. By lowering its hazardous level, this wastewater can be used again in agriculture or other sectors.

We can lower the amount of household water pollution by employing soluble goods that do not later develop into pollutants.

At the end of the day, both life and water pollution are choices. We cannot tolerate sewage-filled beaches, polluted rivers, or fish that is dangerous to consume or drink. We can cooperate to keep the environment clean so that the water bodies, plants, animals, and people who depend on it remain healthy in order to avoid these eventualities. We may work together or individually to decrease water pollution. For instance, avoiding the use of pesticides, using environmentally friendly detergents, and not pouring oil down the drains are some examples. We can work together as a community to maintain our rivers and oceans clean. Additionally, as nations and continents, we may act to enact legislation to stop water contamination. Together, we can reduce the issue of water pollution and improve the globe.
