What is Water?

Water is life.  We can survive for more than a month without food, but cannot survive for more than a week without water.  In some organisms (such as jellyfish) more than 90 percent of their body weight is from water.  The human body consists of about 60 percent water – the brain is 85 percent water, the blood is 79 percent water and the lungs are about 80 percent water.

Water is a common chemical substance, the word water is used only for its liquid state. Water has 3 states: liquid, solid, i.e. ice and water vapor.  Water is an organic compound composed of oxygen and hydrogen, it is composed of 01 molecules of oxygen and 2 molecules of hydrogen, hence its scientific name H2O. Water covers 71% of the Earth's surface[1].  It is found mostly in oceans and other large water bodies, with 1.6 percent of water found in underground water sources and 0.001 percent in water in the form of vapor clouds (made up of solid and liquid water particles suspended in the air), and as precipitation.  Goes.[2]  97% of surface water is saltwater, 2.4% is glacier and polar ice caps, and 0.6% is other surface water sources such as rivers, lakes and ponds.

 Water usually reaches the ocean by going through a continuous cycle of evaporation or evaporation (the release of water vapor), precipitation, and flow.

 Clean, fresh drinking water is essential for human and other life.  The availability of safe drinking water has steadily improved over the past decades in almost every part of the world.[3][4]  However, some observers have estimated that by 2025, more than half the world's population will be facing water-based risk.[6]  Water plays an important role in the world economy, as it acts as a solvent for most types of chemical substances, and facilitates industrial cooling and transportation.  About 70 percent of the fresh water is used by agriculture.

The importance of water, that is, water is life.  Written in the Vedas, Purana's, this quote shows the importance of water in Indian culture.  Water has played an important role in the origin of the earth and the development of human civilization.  Water has been given a place among the five elements (water, air; fire, earth and sky) known in our ancient texts, from which the human body has been created.  Thus, water and air are the most important elements for the existence of life.  Since ancient times, the water deity, the water source, has been worshiped on every auspicious occasion.  The following poem of Rahim also indicates that the world is incomplete without water, water is synonymous with prestige in life.

 Rahim says, keep your dignity, everything is meaningless without it.

 Nature has also provided 70 percent water in the human body and 70 percent water on the earth too.  Man has been living on the banks of rivers since ancient times only to fulfill the need of water.  Even today, one-third of the country's population resides in the Ganges basin.

 1. Aquatic Properties

 1. 1 (a) Chemical Composition :- The chemical formula of water is H2O.  That is, two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen combine to form water.  Priestley (1781) created water in the laboratory by sparking electricity in a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen.  After passing electricity in the experiment, he found that after the dissolution of water, hydrogen is stored at the cathode and oxygen is stored at the anode.  Hence, or water is an oxide of hydrogen.  Water or water is a common chemical substance whose molecule is composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom - H2O.  It is the basis of life of all beings.  The term water is usually used for the liquid state, but it is also found in the solid state (ice) and the gaseous state (steam or water vapor).  Water is also found in the form of liquid-crystals on water-affinity surfaces.

 1. 2 (b) pH :- The pH of clean and pure water is 7 i.e. water is neither acid nor base.  Due to the abundance of salts in seawater, seawater is salty and bitter.  Chloride is found mainly in seawater.

 1.2 (c) Transparency and Color :- Clean water is completely transparent and colorless.  Adding any kind of color to it, it becomes of the same color.  Water has no shape and becomes the same size when poured into a vessel.

 1.2 (d) (heavy water): - Urey (1932) discovered heavy water, which was known as deuterium oxide D20.  It is found in 1/5000 part of normal water.  It is mainly used as a refrigerant in nuclear furnaces.

 

 1.2 (f) Universal solvent :- Many substances are easily soluble in water, due to high solubility, it is called universal solvent.  It has the ability to dissolve any soluble substance inside itself.
