Type 1 diabetes: what is it?
Being an autoimmune disease, type 1 diabetes results from an incorrect attack by the body's immune system on the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. The pancreas stops generating insulin as a result of this.
Because glucose cannot enter muscle cells without insulin, blood glucose levels rise as a result. A person will often exhibit high blood sugar symptoms and indicators when their blood glucose level exceeds 15.0 MMM/L (also known as hyperglycemia).

They have neglected to take their insulin or forgotten to do so.
When treating conditions like cancer or asthma with steroids, they don't raise their insulin dosage to control elevated glucose or ketone levels.
DKA can usually be avoided. When type 1 diabetes is diagnosed, some people already have diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) because their symptoms were misdiagnosed as gastroenteritis, delaying treatment.
Why does type 1 diabetes occur?
Type 1 diabetes has no known exact cause, and there is no known treatment.
It is known that type 1 diabetics carry the gene responsible for the disease. But not everyone who carries the gene experiences type 1 diabetes.
An environmental trigger, like a virus, sets off the immune system's assault on the pancreatic beta cells.
Type 1 diabetes has been associated with rotavirus infection. Studies have revealed a decline in the prevalence of type 1 diabetes in children under five years old since the development of the Rotavirus vaccine in 2007.
Additional studies have demonstrated that vitamin D deficiency may raise the risk of type 1 diabetes development, and that vitamin D supplementation may be protective against the onset of the disease.
Low blood sugar
A glucose level of less than 4.0 MML/L is referred to as hypoglycemia, or a hypo. Hypos are an adverse reaction to insulin treatment.
Hypoglycemia cannot occur in a person without diabetes because insulin and other hormones are constantly precisely regulated to maintain blood glucose levels within normal ranges.
A diabetic needs instruction and training to prevent hypoglycemia and know how to treat it when it happens. This includes understanding how to adjust insulin and carbohydrate.
