What is truth about Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, are the most common medical condition but are rarely discussed. It is believed that 50% of Americans have this condition by age 50 and yet only 500,000 of these people seek medical attention for the condition. Of these, between 10 and 20% require surgery to remove hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are caused by inflammation of the arteries of the rectum and anus. The location of the piles may be external or internal and the symptoms vary depending on this. When hemorrhoids are internal, they can go undetected as pain receptors are absent from the inside. The only evidence of a problem could be intestinal bleeding as they pass through the area. The outer masses are widely known to resemble a bunch of grapes and can be very painful for the patient. Of the two types, it may seem that internal hemorrhoids are the best of the two, as you may not know. However, the outer layers can be easily treated and the inner layers, if left unseen, can lead to more serious problems. If the internal hemorrhoid spreads too much with time it can be pushed out of the anus and visible outside. This is not very easy as it means that the inner lining is closed, which makes it difficult and painful for bowel movements to pass through. These are called prolapsed hemorrhoids. When this situation occures it is common for the anus to stab and the sphincter to catch a rising hemorrhoid outside the body. This then prevents the flow of blood from reaching it and then the hemorrhoid strangled. Causes of hemorrhoids may be due to genetic predisposition or environmental factors. Some people are born with weak arteries in the rectum so there is little they can do to prevent it from happening. For others, however, there are many reasons for this condition. Pregnancy is widely acknowledged to increase the incidence of hemorrhoids and extra weight like obesity, a low fiber containing diet, constipation. During childbirth itself, excessive stress can cause a problem to occur. This can be the case if you are struggling while in the bathroom. This can be prevented by increasing the fiber in the diet, increasing the amount of water you use and reducing diuretic drinks. The diuretic usually contains caffeine and this actually dehydrates the body by drinking the liquid. It is also recommended that you do not stay in the bathroom longer than necessary, for example if you are studying in the bathroom. Living space in the bathroom can also exacerbate the problem. Many people find that mass outbreaks can be treated by practicing the same techniques as I have previously suggested. Topical creams are available and can soothe the area and promote a reduction in inflammation. Once the inflammation has subsided, the hemorrhoids are able to recede back to the body. However, if these treatments do not work within a few days, or if you experience hemorrhoids for a long or regular treatment and you should seek medical help from your doctor.
