The world's tallest border crossing between China and Pakistan has resumed trading

The Karakorum ranges, the world's tallest mountain range, divide the two adjacent nations. The only route connecting these two nations is the Khunjerab Pass, which is located at a height of 16,200 feet. The Xinjiang Uyghur area and Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan are connected by the highest paved international road in the world, which enters China.
The border is typically open from May to November; due to significant snowfall throughout the winter, it is closed.
After Pakistan and China agreed to reopen the Khunjerab Border temporarily in two parts, Mumtaz Zehra Baloch, the spokeswoman for the Foreign Office, announced this in her weekly media conference.
She stated, "In the initial phase, the Khunjerab Border will open today for two days (19-20 January 2023) and again from end-January to early February 2023, following the Chinese Spring Festival.
Every year during the winter, the Khunjerab Border between Pakistan and China remains closed. The request from Pakistan for a brief reopening of the border to assist regional traders has been granted by the Chinese side.
Despite adverse weather, she said, "we appreciate the extra efforts of border authorities on both sides to guarantee seamless crossing operations."

(Dunya News) LAHORE - Sibtain Khan, the speaker of the Punjab Assembly, established a parliamentary committee on Thursday to decide whether to name the caretaker chief minister of Punjab who had been proposed by both the government and the opposition.
A notification stated that the names submitted for the caretaker establishment were read out by the PA system.
To discuss the names that the administration and the opposition had proposed for the caretaker chief minister, Sibtain Khan held a meeting of the parliamentary committee.
The government coalition's representatives in the parliamentary committee are Aslam Iqbal, Raja Basharat, and Hashim Jawan Bakht, while the opposition is represented by Malik Nadeem Kamran, Malik Ahmed Khan, and Hasan Murtaza.
A parliamentary committee was established by Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Captain Khan on Thursday to decide on the name of the interim chief minister, which had been nominated by both the government and the opposition.
The names provided by the administration and the opposition for the caretaker establishment were announced by the PA speaker.
For the role of temporary chief minister of Punjab, the administration has suggested Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhira and Naveed Akram Cheema, while the opposition has put forward Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and Ahad Khan Cheema. In accordance with the constitution, the Speaker appointed the parliamentary committee. The committee has till today (Friday, January 20, 2023) at 3 p.m. to settle on one of the four candidates. In accordance with the constitution, the topic will be sent to the Election Commission at 10:00 p.m. tomorrow night if the parliamentary committee and any recommended name from the government or the opposition cannot agree (Friday, January 20, 2023).
