This new feature of WhatsApp is handy for users who want to hide their personal chat. WhatsApp has rolled out the Archived Chats feature.
How it works -
WhatsApp this week made changes to its Archived Chats feature. This means that new messages can be hidden by enabling this feature. Due to the new feature, even if a new message arrives in the archived chat, it will remain a chat archive. Earlier, if a new message appeared in the archive chat. It was being unarchived. But even if a new message appears in one of your archive chats, it will no longer appear.
This company has rolled out this feature for both Android and iOS users. According to the company, when the new message arrived, the archive chat was appearing in the main chat list, which was being requested by many users to be in the archive folder. This feature has since been modified.
How to Chat Archive?
First, go to the chat tab. Tap on the chat you want to hide or archive. After holding, you will get the archive icon. iPhone users will see the archive option by sliding the chat to the left.
The new Archived Chats setting means -
Any message thread that is archived will now stay in the Archived Chats folder, even if a new message is sent to that thread.
Until and unless a user manually chooses to unarchive a conversation, these chats will stay tucked away permanently. WhatsApp users will always have the option to revert to how archived chats worked before the update.
WhatsApp explained why they introduced the new feature. The official statement said, "We know that not everything always needs to be front and center for you. We want to make sure that WhatsApp remains a private and secure place where you can speak to the people who are most important to you and where you're in control of your messages."
The messaging application has been testing the archived chats features for a few years. In 2019. the feature was spotted on the beta version, but it was later rolled back. The feature surfaced again last year, and since then, the Facebook-owned company has been trying to refine it for roll-out to users on the stable version.
Users can choose not to use the feature -
Even though the feature sounds handy, not everyone may take a liking to it. If users do not want to use the new implementation, they will be able to switch back to the original Archived folder implementation from the app's settings.
