The Pallavas were the main government following them. The Cholas defeated the Pallavas and Pandyas in the ninth century, rose to great power and expanded their empire almost throughout the southern peninsula.

The history of Tamil Nadu and the civilization of the Tamil people is the oldest in the world. The Tamil Nadu region in present-day India has been inhabited since prehistoric times. But Tamil Nadu has a history dating back to the Pallava period.

Political changes in other parts of India due to the infiltration of Islamic forces from the North West also brought about a significant change in the history of Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu became a part of the Vijayanagara Empire in the 14th century due to the fall of the three ancient empires.

Portuguese, Dutch and English came to trade from European countries. They started the East India Company in 1611. Chennai Province was formed in the 18th century and covers many parts of South India. The state of Tamil Nadu was formed after Indian independence based on the boundaries of language. Tamil Nadu is bordered by Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to the north, Kerala to the west, the Bay of Bengal to the east and the Indian Ocean to the south.

Agriculture:

 

The main industry in Tamil Nadu is agriculture. The area under arable land as of 2007-2008 is about 56.10 million hectares. The main food crops here are paddy and cereals. Apart from this, cash crops like sugarcane, cotton, chili, sunflower and seaweed are cultivated. Horticultural crops such as tea, coffee and rubber are also cultivated. Tamil Nadu plays an important role in the production of bio-fertilizers. 

 

Industry and Minerals:

The main industries in Tamil Nadu are cotton, heavy vehicle manufacturing, railway box factory, spare parts manufacturing, cement, sugar, paper and match factories. Apart from this, there are industrial estates in Tamil Nadu. A software technology park has been set up in Chennai for software development. Software worth about Rs 20,700 crore was exported in 2006-2007.

The major minerals exported here are marble, chert, brown coal and limestone. Leather, yarn, tea, coffee, tobacco and handicrafts, tanneries make up sixty per cent of India's stock.

 

Power:

The total power demand in Tamil Nadu is about 8,249 MW. Of this, 5,288 MW comes from the State Grid, about 1,058 MW from the private sector and 1,093 MW from the central grid.

 

Transportation:

Road:

The total length of roads in Tamil Nadu is about 1,93,918 km. 

 

Series:

 The total length of the railway track is 4,181 km. Is. The major junctions are Chennai, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore and Tirunelveli.

 

Aero plane:

Chennai is the premier international airport in South India. Apart from this, there are airports in Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore and Salem in Tamil Nadu.

 

Port:

The most important shipping ports in Tamil Nadu are at Chennai and Thoothukudi. Apart from this, there are 7 smaller ports.

Pongal festival is celebrated as the harvest festival. This day is celebrated as a festival of thanksgiving to the sun. Celebrated only in some parts of Tamil Nadu. Audi Festival is celebrated on the 18th day of the Tamil month of Audi.

Mahalaxmi Pooja is celebrated for nine nights. It is worshiped in many parts of India, in many ways. Its main goal is energy, knowledge and wealth.
