What is The Story of the Saptarishis

When the  world begin there were a number of powerful Rishi's but the greatest of all where the  saptarishis or the  seven great ones - Kashyap, Atri, Vasistha, Bharadwaja, Gautama, Vishwamitra and Jamadagni.

There come a time when the 7 Rishi's and Vashistha's wife Arundhati where all together and they had a common serving mind Gunda who was helped by her husband Pasusakha. They lived together in  perfect harmony and roved the world performing severe austerities and penances so that they could reach heaven. Time passed without their knowing until a  terrible draught affected the land. The earth grew parched, cracking video open and all living creatures become thin and weak.

The seven great rashes fared no better. Weak and hungry they wandered over the arid land in search of food they could eat for as true saints they could eat only that which was given to them at a sacrifice or the roots and fruits of the forest. Anything else would reduce the merit's day had attached together penance, and heaven would get further away from them. One day they meet a man. Holy Ones, the man said, blowing law before them. I will give you all you need-grain, barley, mules, gold, cows with calves and rare gems.

The Rishi S out, almost fainting

With hunger, politely refused him. If we accept your gifts, we will lose the merits we've accused through search difficulty. We may accept fruits of the forest but no more. Without a glance at the precious the 7 Rishi's left the place lest they should be tempted by the man's offer.

The men was king Vrisadarbhi's messengers. The king was not pleased to learn that his gifts were refused. He sent for his ministers. Pluck the ripest figs from the palace Garden stuff them with grains of gold and present them to the great ones.

The kings ministers to the kings gifts to the rashies Who brightened up at the sight of the juicy fruits. But Atri stopped them from accepting the gift and glared angrily at the king's men.

Do you think we are a bunch of Idiots? He asked a idly. Those figs are are stuff with gold. He me be telling but our wits haven't gone wandering. Return these figs to your King with our compliments!"

Vasistha was gentler, we lose all our merits if we except even one gold coin. Heaven is more important to us than hunger he said. The king's men could not tempt even Gunda or her husband. Defeated they returned to the palace and narrated the whole episode to the king.

The king was grievously offended by the richest constant refusal of his gifts. Locking himself up in his chamber he performed a sacrifice and out of the fire a fearsome demureness emerged.

The demoness bowed before her creator. What do you want me to do? She asked.

Follow the saptarishi and their group. They are wandering around in search of food. And the only place where they find it is the lake. Follow them there and become the guardian of the lake and when they come to pluck the Lotus stalks, ask them the meanings of their names. And once you have their answers you be e able to overpower and destroy them.
