The Koodathayi Incident: Curry Cyanide
The Koodathayi cyanide killings were an outbreak of unexplained, ultimately brutal, fatalities that happened in Koodathayi, in the Kozhikode district of Kerala, India. The crimes, which involved the mystery of six fatalities over a 14-year period, were looked into in late 2019. Jolly Joseph was eventually arrested as a result of the criminal cases, which generated a lot of media and public interest in Kerala.

The accused's mother-in-law, Annamma Thomas, 57, had a glass of water when she got home from a walk in 2002. Shortly afterward, she started feeling woozy and faint, before passing out on the ground. After being brought to the hospital, she passed away there, and the medical staff determined that she had suffered a heart attack

Tom Thomas, Annamma's spouse and Jolly's father-in-law, swooned and collapsed in 2008, aged sixty-six. According to reports, Jolly Joseph was there both times.
The post-mortem investigation revealed evidence of poison, and financial difficulties were declared the cause of death. Roy's maternal uncle, Mathew Manjayadil, demanded that Roy's cause of death be investigated and a post-mortem report made.
Mathew (68) passed away in 2014 after he reportedly drank poisoned alcohol from Jolly. Shaju Zachariah is the cousin of the late Roy. Shaju's two-year-old daughter Alphine Shaju passed away that same year after "choking on food".

Alphine's mother, Sily Shaju, 41, is said to have received a mushroom capsule from Jolly in 2016. Jolly allegedly told Sily that the capsule would help her with despair and energy, and Sily promptly passed away.
The 40-year-old spouse of Jolly at the time, Roy Thomas, passed away in 2011 after eating puttu and chickpea curry for supper. He was discovered lifeless within a secured lavatory. The post-mortem investigation revealed evidence of poison, and financial difficulties were declared the cause of death. Roy's maternal uncle, Mathew Manjayadil, demanded that Roy's cause of death be investigated and a post-mortem report made.

Rojo Thomas visited Koodathayi in 2018 and submitted several RTI petitions. He obtained a copy of the autopsy report on his brother's corpse from the government hospital. He discovered that what Jolly had told us was false when he perused the report. Jolly informed us that he had eaten at 3:30 pm and had not eaten since. However, family friend Mohammad Bawa stated, "It was evident from the post-mortem report that he had a curry of rice and chickpeas around 8:30 p.m".
Death from acute cyanide poisoning can happen in a matter of seconds. The head of forensic medicine and toxicology at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi, Dr. V V Pillay, stated that cyanide is not often found in slow death cases since it does not build up in the body.
Suspects:
At the time of her arrest in 2019, Jolly Joseph, 47, was the main suspect in the killings of six members of the family she had married into. Renji Thomas, the sister of Roy Thomas, reported the six unexplained deaths to the authorities, and Jolly Joseph was the result of her research. After being apprehended in October 2019, Jolly has admitted to killing the six individuals listed above using cyanide. It is believed that M. S. Mathew and Praji Kumar, who have also been detained, assisted her in obtaining the cyanide.
Jolly Joseph
Jolly was a first-year college dropout originating from Kattappana, in the Idukki district. In 1997, she was married to Roy Thomas for the first time. Two sons, currently ages 19 and 24, were born to Jolly and Roy. Jolly allegedly lied to her neighbours about having an M.Com. and working at the esteemed National Institute of Technology Calicut while interacting with other villagers. She didn't know where she was going to her pretend job every day. Her spouse Roy Thomas passed away in 2011 under suspicious circumstances. Jolly Zachariah married Shaju Zachariah after his wife passed away in 2016.Those who knew joyful had described her as "jovial, friendly, jolly and pious". which, in reality, was the complete antithesis of her personality.
M. S. Mathew
Mathew, a worker at a jewellery store and Jolly's boyfriend as well as a distant relative, admitted to the authorities that he gave Jolly the cyanide. He allegedly admitted to the police that he gave Praji Kumar two bottles of vodka and ₹5,000 in exchange for the cyanide. Jolly allegedly requested Mathew for cyanide to kill a stray dog that was hanging around her house.

The cyanide is said to have been given to M. S. Mathew by a goldsmith named Praji Kumar. He said he thought the poison was being purchased to put down a stray dog.
