Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 years old on 9 September, the Queen's death certificate has been made public, revealing the cause of her passing. According to the document, which lists the royal's occupation as 'Her Majesty The Queen', Britain's longest reigning monarch died of natural causes – and therefore the cause of her death has been recorded as 'old age'. This is the same cause cited on her husband Prince Philip's death certificate last spring.
The death certificate also confirms Her Majesty's place of death as Balmoral Castle and the time as 3:10PM, along with her marital status as 'widowed'. The Queen's only daughter, Princess Anne, is named as the 'informant' on the document (meaning she would have been the one to notify a local registrar of Her Majesty's passing), which was released by National Records of Scotland.
Queen Elizabeth II and Anne, Princess Royal, were known to share an incredibly close bond. After her mother passed away, Princess Anne shared a moving tribute to her and said it was an 'honour' to accompany her body from Scotland back to London.
In full, Anne's statement reads: "I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life. It has been an honour and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys. Witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and uplifting."
"We will all share unique memories. I offer my thanks to each and every one who share our sense of loss. We may have been reminded how much of her presence and contribution to our national identity we took for granted. I am also so grateful for the support and understanding offered to my dear brother Charles as he accepts the added responsibilities of The Monarch. To my mother, The Queen, thank you."
Following Queen Elizabeth II's death, her eldest son, King Charles III, ascended to the throne. In his first public address as reigning monarch, His Majesty thanked his mother for both her 70 years of public service and her love and guidance as a parent.

The monarch's death was registered on September 16 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and her death certificate was published by the National Records of Scotland on Thursday. A screenshot of the certificate was shared on Twitter by ITV's royal editor, Chris Ship.
The certificate states that Her Majesty died at 3:10 p.m. BST and was signed by her daughter, Princess Anne.
Anne, who is officially known as The Princess Royal, previously said in a statement that she was with her mother for the last 24 hours of her life.
The princess said it was an "honour and a privilege" to accompany the Queen "on her final journeys," and that she was grateful for the support King Charles had received upon his accession to the throne.
On September 8 at 12:32 p.m. BST, Buckingham Palace said in a statement sent to Insider that doctors were concerned for the Queen's health and that she was under medical supervision.
While Anne was with the monarch before she died, it appears that some members of the royal family did not make it to Balmoral on time. Hello magazine previously reported that Prince William, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, and Prince Andrew arrived at Aberdeen airport at 3:50 p.m. BST on September 8.
Her Majesty's death was announced later that day at 6:30 p.m. BST.
