The 169th film of Superstar Rajinikanth has been titled Jailer. Sun Pictures, which is financially shepherding this much-anticipated project, on Friday announced its title on social media with a concept poster.
They wrote, “#Thalaivar169 is #Jailer.” The concept poster of Jailer sees a blood-soaked meat cleaver hanged to a chain inside an abandoned factory. While the ambience in the frame look rustic, it also promises a high voltage actioned.
Jailer marks Nelson Dilipkumar’s second directorial for Sun Pictures after Vijay’s Beast. It also marks his first-time collaboration with Rajinikanth.
The film will have music by Anirudh Ravichander while Kalanithi Mara presents it. The remaining cast and crew for the project are likely to be announced soon.
Since the release and negative box office result of the Beast movie, the speculations about the materialization of Thalaivar169 have been rife. But now, the makers have put a full stop to the rumor mills by announcing the film’s title in style.
Beast received mixed reviews after it released on April 13. Following its theatrical release and subsequent OTTO release, the director faced criticism online. Viral memes targeting Nelson have been doing the rounds on social media. Vijay’s father had also criticized the director’s handling of the film.
This morning, June 17, the makers, Sun Pictures, took to Twitter to announce this magnificent news, something that Thalaivar fans have been eagerly waiting for all this while. Along with two first-look posters, the tweet read: "#Thalaivar169 is #Jailer (sic)."
The poster is a striking one that shows a blood-stained sword hanging down with the help of chains. Take a look.
Apart from Shivarajkumar, reports suggest that the likes of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sivakarthikeyan, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Ramya Krishnan and Yogi Babu are in talks for important characters.
In the same interview, he confirmed the shooting schedule of the film. "As far as I know, the team is planning to begin filming in August. In all likelihood, my portions with Rajini Sir will be shot either in Bengaluru or Mysore in September," Shivarajkumar added.
Jailer will be Superstar Rajinikanth's next big-screen outing post Annatthe. While the cast and crew of Jailer are yet to be announced, in an interview with Cinema Express, Kannada superstar Shivarajkumar confirmed that he is a part of Rajinikanth's film. He said, "It's a great opportunity for anybody to act along with Rajinikanth, and I'm glad that this project has made it possible for me. He has known me from my childhood, and I share a special bond with the senior actor. Irrespective of the role, I'm glad to be part of this film. I'm sure fans will love to watch Rajini Sir and me together on the silver screen."
