This is a hand-built machine that's as carefully crafted as any of the Mercedes-Benz cars worked up by a then-independent AMG. Alpina, founded in the 1960s by Burkard Bovensiepen, made its bones tuning and then racing BMWs, and was officially recognized as a full-fledged automobile manufacturer by the German government in 1983.
