What is the importance of water? How can we save fresh water?

Importance of water!

How much water is on Earth?

Earth is special because it has so much water. It’s in the ground, forms big oceans, and it’s in our atmosphere. It’s also in living things. Our body is made up mostly of water.

Water covers 71 percent of Earth’s surface, and almost all of it—96.5 percent—is salt water.

Just 3.5 percent of the water on Earth is fresh water we can drink and most of that fresh water, 68 percent, is trapped in ice and glaciers.

A third of the fresh water is in the ground, which we call it groundwater. The last two percent of fresh water is in the rivers, lakes, and streams.

A very small amount is in our atmosphere, where it exists as water vapor.

Why water is necessary in body?

1: Water helps to create saliva. Water is the main component of saliva. Saliva also includes small amounts of electrolytes and enzymes. It’s crucial for breaking down solid food and keeping our mouth healthy.

2; Water regulates the body temperature. Our body loses water through sweat during physical activity and in hot environments. Sweat keeps our body cool, but body temperature will rise if we don't drink the water.  We lose, that's because our body loses plasma and electrolytes when it's dehydrated.

3: Water protects your tissues, joints and spinal cord. Drinking water helps lubricate and cushion your tissues, joints and spinal cord. This will help us physical activities and also lessen the discomfort caused by conditions such as arthritis.

4: Water helps excrete waste. We need enough water in our system to have healthy stool and avoid constipation. Kidneys filter out waste through urination.  Adequate water intake helps the kidneys work more efficiently.

5: Water helps our body break down the food we eat more easily.  This will help in digesting food more effectively and obtaining the foremost out of our meals. It helps with nutrient absorption.

Water also helps dissolve minerals vitamins and other nutrients from our food. It then delivers these consumed vitamin components to the rest of the body.

Water helps boost energy.  Drinking water activates the metabolism.  A boost in metabolism has been widely associated with a positive impact on energy level.

6: It helps maximize the physical performance. Drinking plenty of water during physical activity is very essential. Hydration also affects your strength power and endurance, harmful effects of exercise in the heat.

Without enough water can include many serious medical conditions. It helps prevent constipation if we don't consume enough water magnesium and fiber.

7: Drinking water helps keep the skin healthy.  Adequate water intake helps keep your skin hydrated and also promotes collagen production. This makes the skin healthy and glowing.

Uses of water!

All the living things need water to survive, to live and grow. There are various uses of water.

We use water for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing clothes, cleaning, brushing teeth, washing utensils, washing hands, washing vehicles and swimming.

Apart from the domestic purpose water is being used for farming and industrial purpose. As well, animals also need water to live. Plants need water to grow and survive.

We use millions of gallons of water per day. Drinking water is very precious, but we waste it in many ways. We use fresh water for cleaning, washing cars, watering plants and so many other purposes.

We need to cut down the unnecessary use of fresh or drinking water.

How to cut down unnecessary use of fresh or drinking water?

1: Turn off tap during brushing teeth. This way you could save up a hundred and four bottles a week.

2: Use shaving cup instead of running tap.

3: Take a shower instead of a bath. This will not only save water but can also save money because heating water can account for 25% of your energy bill.

4: In the toilet; so if it's yellow, use half flush.

5: Put a full washing load on rather than two half loads.

6: keep a jug of water in the fridge. So we don't have to run the tap for as long for the cold drink.

7: Fill the dishwasher and use an eco setting or wait and do the dishes all in one go rather than throughout the day.

8: If you're buying new appliances choose water efficient products or even better look for a product with a water-wise recommended check mark. This will reduce your water use.

9: A leaking tap can waste up to 15 liters of water a day, or 5,500 liters a year. That's enough to fill up five and a half fire engines.

10: Use a water bath to catch water that could otherwise be taken away through our sewerage pipes.  You could use this to clean your car or wash your windows, which will help you get into all those awkward nooks and crannies.

11: Use a watering can rather than a hosepipe. Watering in the early morning and late afternoon will reduce evaporation to save water.

12: By rain-water-harvesting, we can cut down 50% to 80% use of fresh water.

By following these hints and tips, we can all work together to use less water in our everyday lives and help protect our beautiful environment.

What is rain-water-harvesting?

Now a day, scientists and social workers are globally working on saving fresh or drinking water.

Percentage of fresh water is not enough that its demand. If we didn’t cut down usage of fresh water sooner or later fresh water will not be able to fulfill the demand of it.

So they are educating the people to reuse the rain water. Annually, millions of gallons of rain water falls on our roofs.

But this water wasted and thrown outside the houses. This creates floods and many other problems.

If we manage to store this water and  reuse it for house held purposes like toilet flush, car washing, cloth washing, plants watering and even for drinking.

We just need an extra underground tank to connect to drain pipe of our roof.

Is rain water safe for use?

According to the  Adindu Cyril Iyasara (https://www.researchgate.net/figure/0-Physico-chemical-analysis-of-the-Rainwater_tbl3_281277253) rainwater analysis is as under

This analysis shows that rainwater is useable after filtration for drinking purpose. But it can be used for car washing, cloth washing and plants watering directly.

I think that all the above information will be helpful to understand the importance of fresh water and the ways to save fresh water for ourselves and coming generations. If you like this blog or find any mistake, please comment. Thanks
