The term personality is gaining more and more importance these days because it enables people to create a good impression of themselves on others. Therefore, the importance of Personality development has risen very much.
Personality is derived from the Latin word Persona, which means the masks worn by theatrical actors in ancient Greek dramas. It indicates the social image that an individual plays while assuming life roles. It is the character pattern of behavior and describes the impact of an individual on others. It also gives a clear picture of an individual's adjustment to his environment.
The dynamic organization within the individual of those psychological systems determines his unique adjustments to his environment.
Our relationship with the external world is based on our true Personality. It helps us to build and develop relationships, helps in our career growth, and also helps to improve our financial needs.
We must understand that both the inner and outer personality of a person needs to be strengthened. Personality is the outcome of a continuous personal quality development process. A person's personality is determined by several factors like hereditary, biological features, culture, religion, personal factors, environment, situation, and many more. Heredity:
Heredity is concerned with the transfer of characteristics from parents to their children. The traits like shyness, fear, and distress created by inherited genetic characteristics. The physical and psychological characteristics passed to the younger generation through heredity. Heredity is the base for shaping biological features. The personality traits like sensibility, intelligence, sociability, etc. are influenced by genetic factors.
Environment:
The environment like family, friends, social groups, and other influences are playing a vital role in the formation of personality. The cultural environment creates norms, attitudes, and values that can be transferred from one generation to the next generation. Culture determines values even at the early stage in a person's life. By observing elders as models, youngsters develop their characteristics. The family affects the development of personality along with siblings. The school environment also has a great influence on personality.
Situation:
The different situations demand different types of personalities. An individual change his personality depending on the situation. The situations give pressure to an individual to behave differently in a particular situation. His behavior is determined not only by his characteristics, but also by the situation in which he is operating.
Social factors:
Social groups, such as friends circle, people in the working place, etc. influence the personality development of an individual.
Cultural factor:
The traditional beliefs and customs in the way of life are called culture. The custom of choosing a life partner is different from nation to nation. Culture and also non-verbal behavior, such as body movements also differ in each country. These factors have an impact on the personality development of an individual.
